That feeling of never quite being able to relax, always on high alert, always one sound away from being overstimulated.

Many people have lived this way for so long they don't even realize it's not how it has to be 🤍 They have normalized a nervous system that is always "on" and never got the signal that it was safe to slow down.

This is where Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) comes in. 🎧✨

SSP uses specially filtered music, delivered through headphones, to work directly with the vagus nerve. This is the part of your nervous system responsible for how safe you feel in your body and in the world around you. 🫂

SSP was developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, the neuroscientist behind Polyvagal theory and it is a powerful tool that can be done alongside traditional talk therapy. In fact, SSP can enhance the effectiveness of your talk therapy sessions. SSP can be used in a therapy session with your Somatic Experiencing®️ (SE™️) therapist.

If you have been experiencing noise sensitivity, overstimulation, or hypervigilance, SSP can be a step in the right direction towards healing.

Clients often notice they can tolerate sound more easily after SSP. 🌿 That certain environments don't overstimulate them the way they did before. 💫 That their body, maybe for the first time in a long time, can relax even for a few minutes. 🌊

DM us the word SSP and let's talk about whether this might be right for you. ✨🌾

🎵 You sit down with your practitioner, put on headphones, and press play.

🎧 Before the music even begins, we take time together to understand what's happening in your nervous system. You and your practitioner will discuss what brought you here, what your body has been carrying, and what to expect as you move through the protocol.

That psychoeducation piece matters, because healing can work better when you understand what your body is doing and why.

🎧 SSP is a 5-hour auditory intervention developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, the neuroscientist behind Polyvagal theory. It uses specially filtered music to gently train your vagus nerve to detect safety.

💡 This helps your nervous system shift out of chronic survival states and into a place where connection, calm, and healing become more accessible.

🎧 Sessions are typically 30-50 minutes, spread across several sessions. Healing might look like: an unplanned deep exhale, a jaw that softens, a heaviness that slowly lifts. Or, you might feel very little at first and that's okay too.

🌿 Not noticing anything specific during the SSP session or immediately afterwards does not mean that it is not working. Even after the completion of the entire 5 hours, it can take between 2-7 weeks to notice all of the changes. Every nervous system responds in its own way and time.

SSP works beautifully alongside Somatic Experiencing® (SE™). SSP can be an adjunct to traditional talk therapy and other therapy modalities.

🤍 The additional support from SSP can enhance your experience in therapy and make it more effective overall by supporting your body in feeling safer and having greater capacity to explore harder things in therapy.

🎧 Comment the word SSP if you're curious whether this might be right for you.

Nature teaches us to notice. 🌸

In Somatic Experiencing®, we learn how to notice, orienting to things in our environment that draw our bodies towards safety.

Let your eyes move slowly around the space you're in. Notice what they're drawn to. Maybe something pleasant, something easy, something that feels even just a little bit good to look at. 🌷

Pause there. Let your body feel into the pleasant, or easy, or that little bit of good.

This is how your body can learn safety. It does not have to be all at once, but instead in small, intentional moments of noticing that can bring you into the present moment and offer your body cues of safety.

The more we practice this, the more the body gets into the habit of noticing pleasant or neutral things that bring safety, even a little at a time. 🌿

Re-telling your story doesn't have to be the only way towards healing.

Sometimes the answers we seek can be found in the body. Just as we experience trauma, so does our body.

Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) helps you finally learn how to understand what your body has been trying to tell you. It is a body-based approach to resolving trauma and chronic stress by restoring the nervous system's innate capacity for healing.

It focuses on physical sensations rather than just mental analysis alone. By working with the body, you don't have to re-tell your story.

Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) helps with
➡️ Single Incident Trauma
➡️ Stress Management
➡️ Mental Health Diagnoses
➡️ Relationship Challenges
➡️ PTSD, C-PTSD
➡️ ADHD Symptoms
➡️ Chronic Pain
➡️ Childhood Trauma

Are you tired of re-telling your story and feeling the same?

🌾 Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a guided music therapy that works without you having to talk, process, or relive anything. In this process, your nervous system gets a chance to learn what safety actually feels like.

Here is why it might be exactly what you're missing:

🎧 It's specially filtered music, not a conversation
🎧 It focuses on the body as well as the mind
🎧 It's passive, all you have to do is listen
🎧 It enhances your existing talk therapy, not replace it

SSP was developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, the author of Polyvagal Theory and is used in 70+ countries worldwide.

If you've began your healing journey and still feel stuck, this could be the missing piece.

We will be offering SSP sessions with our team member Mikaela soon! If you would like to add yourself to the waitlist or learn more, email Mikaela at [email protected].

What happens in a Somatic Experiencing session?

🌾 In this reel, our Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), Sharon, and SE Advanced Level Trainee, Mikaela, offer a brief look at how a session may begin, and the kinds of gentle questions used in somatic therapy to support nervous system regulation.

🫶 In SE, we slow down. We follow what’s happening in your body. As you pause and stay with sensations with safety and attunement — you may become aware of something you didn’t realize you were holding.

🫂 Sometimes there’s a settling.
Sometimes an impulse arises — a protective response that was never able to complete.

❤️‍🩹 When these incomplete stress responses are supported and gently integrated, the survival energy keeping you stuck in fight, flight, fawn, or freeze begin to release, and your nervous system can return to greater regulation and resilience.

❔If you’re curious how Somatic Experiencing could help you, or you’re looking for somatic trauma therapy, or nervous system healing, visit the link in our bio to book a discovery call with Mikaela or join Sharon’s waitlist.

Healing happens in relationship. We would be honoured to support you 🌿
