Colorectal Cancer Screening

Men and women between the ages of 50 to 74 should get screened for colorectal cancer with a F***l Occult Blood Test (FOBT) every two years. Men and women over 75 should continue to get regular check-ups and discuss with their family doctor or nurse practitioner whether they should continue to be screened for colorectal cancer. If a first degree relative (parent, siblin

g or child) had colorectal cancer you are at increased risk. Talk to your doctor about getting screened for colorectal cancer when you are 10 years younger than your relative was at the disease onset. Breast Cancer Screening

Women 50 – 74 years of age should get regular breast cancer screening with mammography every two years. Women 75 and over should continue to get regular checkups and discuss with their family doctor or nurse practitioner whether they should continue to be screened for breast cancer. Women between the ages of 30 and 69 and identified by a physician as high risk for breast cancer, should have yearly screening using both a mammogram and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Cervical Cancer Screening

All women who have ever had any s*xual skin-to-skin contact need to have regular Pap tests starting at age 21. This includes in*******se, intimate touching or oral s*xual contact with partners of either s*x. The current recommendation in Ontario is a Pap test every three years. Make the Pap test part of your regular health checkup until you are 70 years old. Pap tests can stop at age 70 if you have had three or more normal tests in the past 10 years. If you have had a hysterectomy, talk to your doctor or nurse practitioner to see if you still need a Pap test.

Celebrate National Indigenous History Month by prioritizing your health and wellness. Indigenous communities are disproportionately affected by cancer, making regular, early screening one of the most powerful tools we have to protect ourselves and our families. Finding pre-cancerous changes early—often before symptoms even appear—makes treatment much more effective and truly saves lives.

This June, join us for a dedicated Indigenous Cancer Screening Event at Bluewater Health in Sarnia. 🚨 NEW PROGRAM ALERT: Ontario Lung Screening Program (OLSP) now available at Windsor Regional Hospital! 🚨

The Ontario Lung Screening Program has officially launched in the Erie St. Clair region, helping eligible individuals access lung cancer screening earlier — before symptoms appear. Early detection can lead to more effective treatment, better outcomes, and improved quality of life.

Who may be eligible?
✔️ Adults aged 55–80
✔️ Individuals who have smoked for 20 years or more (not required to be consecutive)
*Participants must complete a lung cancer risk assessment

Eligible participants may qualify for a low-dose CT scan, a specialized screening test designed to detect lung cancer early.

If you meet the eligibility criteria above and are interested getting screened through the program, call (519) 255-8690.

This is an important step forward in expanding access to cancer screening services across our region and supporting earlier detection for our communities. This program will soon be expanding across our region to our partner sites, to ensure eligible individuals have access to be screened through the program. Stay tuned for updates!
