🗣️💜This week is National Stuttering Awareness Week!
So, what exactly is stuttering? 🤔
Stuttering is a communication difference that affects the flow of speech. It can show up as repeated sounds, syllables, or words, prolonged sounds, or moments where speech feels blocked or stuck.
This week, we are shining a light on some important truths about stuttering 💚👇
✅ Stuttering affects people of all ages and backgrounds. No two experiences of stuttering look exactly the same, and it is more common than many people think!
✅ Stuttering does not reflect intelligence, ability, or potential. Many incredibly successful people stutter and live full, confident, and connected lives.
✅ Stuttering is not caused by parents, shyness, insecurity, or not knowing what to say. It is a neurodevelopmental difference, not a personal failing.
✅ Compassion and patience go a long way. Being patient, making eye contact, and not finishing someone's sentences can make a world of difference to someone who stutters.
✅ Early support can make a real difference. Speech-language pathologists can work with children and adults who stutter to build confidence, reduce struggle, and develop strategies that feel right for them.
At Cara The SLP, we believe EVERY voice deserves to be heard and empowered! 💬✨
