MLA for Dauphin and Minister of Agriculture Ron Kostyshyn visited the Dauphin Regional Health Centre (DRHC) on Friday to see firsthand, the remarkable efforts of everyone involved to reopen the hospital’s emergency department. Watch his video to hear his reflections.

This milestone comes after a challenging period following the historic flood that impacted the DHRC and communities across the region. He thanks Prairie Mountain Health, Shared Health, government partners, contractors, healthcare teams, for their dedication and teamwork in restoring this vital service. He thanks all staff at St. Rose and Grandview hospitals for caring for residents of Dauphin while this work was taking place.

The emergency department at Dauphin Regional Health Centre has reopened and is once again providing 24/7 emergency care to Dauphin and surrounding communities.

This milestone was made possible through the collaboration of Prairie Mountain Health, Shared Health, government, and many dedicated partners. Thank you to everyone who worked together to help restore this essential service for the community.

The reopening of the Emergency Department at Dauphin Regional Health Centre is being shaped by the people who know it best.

Physicians, nurses, healthcare aides and other frontline staff have played an important role in planning and preparing the department for reopening.

"We’re all quite grateful for being included in the discussions to ensure the ED is up to the needs of the community," said Dr. Brook Ruffo.

"Seeing the progress that has been made, we’re looking forward to being back at home," said Dr. Scott Kish, who also thanked surrounding facilities for their ongoing support.

Together, we're building a strong future for emergency care in Dauphin.

Cheryl Brown, Director of Diagnostic Services at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre is very excited about the progress made to reopen on Sept. 7. Teams behind Prairie Mountain Health, Shared Health, government, and other partners have worked hard to restore diagnostic services back inside DRHC – everything from x-ray, ECG, ultrasound, phlebotomy and more.

“There’s no place like home and that is very true for our staff as well as our patients so we are very excited to be back into our home environment where we can feel more comfortable. We have all the tools and resources and our patients who are always most important for us also feel more comfortable knowing they receive high-quality care here in the Dauphin Health Centre and we’re very much looking forward to reestablishing our roots once again.”
