I may be on holidays, but the learning never ends for this IBCLC.
How lovely to be able to be lakeside while filling my brain with deeper understanding and new ideas.

Seriously though, I’m here for all the unhinged things that ChatGPT has told you about feeding and parenting your baby (and we can fine-tune it when needed!).

What’s the wildest thing it’s suggested to you?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Dads can sure be superhero’s in those postpartum days, weeks and months.

For taking on some of the mental load, the emotional labour, the sleep deprivation, the physical tasks…and for simply being there.

This generation of dads is STEPPING UP and it’s a joy to see.

Happy Father’s Day! You make a huge difference by being there.

I believe that every family deserves to be celebrated, and deserves safe, affirming care.

What does that mean to me? It means I’ve gone to great lengths to understand how to provide that care. It means I don’t just say I provide safe(r) care…over the years, I’ve learned (and continue to learn) to understand what is safe(r) care for families.

It means I check my biases. I examine myself and my responses and want to understand more about them. I attend conferences and workshops to learn more about how I can better support and care for 2SLGBTQIA families.

And I celebrate with your family during those tender postpartum times, just the same as everyone else’s.

Because you deserve nothing less.

Hey doulas! Has this happened to your clients’ babies? Now you know how you can help them get quick, lasting improvements!

You watch the baby spit up for the third time during a single feed. Fresh milk, right back up. The baby screams for hours a day,
You think maybe it’s colic, or reflux.

The parents hired you because they’re at their wits end. They’ve tried paced feeding, upright positioning, smaller volumes, but this baby is still struggling.

What you’re seeing are addressable symptoms.
When the fascia around the abdomen is tight, milk does not move through the digestive system efficiently causing some distressing symptoms for this sweet babe.

Medication manages the acid. Positioning manages the flow. Neither one releases the tension in the digestive system.
That’s the piece craniosacral therapy addresses. And it is the referral that changes what this family’s next few weeks look like.

Today, I was told by someone who recommended my services to their friend that their friend got in touch after the appointment and said that I was ‘the Mary Poppins of breastfeeding’.

I’ll take it!

(and I do carry a magic bag full of all sorts of things with me wherever I go - though it’s less floor lamps, plant stands and multicolored medicines, and more pump flanges in all shapes and sizes, cloth breasts and vinyl gloves).

As always, thank you to all the past clients and perinatal practitioners for your referrals, and most of all for entrusting the care of your friends, family and clients/patients to me. It is the highest honour!

And just like Mary Poppins, it may seem that I bring the magic…..but the families I serve are the real magic of it all. Sometimes all you need is a little guidance and a fresh set of eyes to turn things around.

The ones who made me a mom, and have taught (and keep teaching!) me all I’ve ever needed to know - about infant feeding, growing as a parent - even now - of being gracious and kind to myself and others, of the importance of personal growth and vulnerability, and owning my s**t. Of valuing myself as well as others. Of setting my own boundaries and respecting others’. That there’s no such thing as perfection and that owning that and being humble is more important than faking perfection. That we’re all fumbling our way through as best we can. And that being vulnerable and sharing our hearts is the only real way to move through this being human together.
I will forever be grateful for the lessons I’ve learned (and am still learning) through being their mom. And for the tremendous young adults they’ve all grown into…..I couldn’t be more proud to be their mom! Seriously the best humans I know. 🥰

(also, this outfit coordination/matching was purely coincidental!)
