In reality, every complaint is assessed on its own merits through an open, fair, efficient, and effective process.

Understanding this process helps build confidence that concerns are handled fairly, consistently, and in the public interest.

Did you know that CPMB is required to follow the RHPA as it pertains to professional conduct? πŸ€” The complaints process plays an important role in protecting the public and maintaining confidence in the paramedic profession

But what actually happens when the College receives a complaint?

Every complaint is reviewed through a fair and consistent process. Depending on the circumstances, a complaint may be resolved early, require further investigation, or proceed through additional review.

*This post provides a general overview of the complaints process. Timelines and steps may vary depending on the circumstances of each complaint.

Whether you're just beginning your career or have been practicing for years, having the right resources at your fingertips can help you navigate questions, strengthen your practice, and stay informed.

At CPMB, we provide a variety of professional practice resources to support registrants throughout their careers, including:

πŸ‘‰ Standards of Practice & Practice Directions - Expectations established by the Council in line with the RHPA to help enhance, explain, aid, and guide paramedics throughout their practice

πŸ‘‰ Practice Expectations - Behavioural standards and examples that are not specifically defined within the RHPA. These expectations do support CPMB's Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice

πŸ‘‰ Renewal Requirements - Everything you need to know from required documents to license fees so you're not left stranded during renewal season (which occurs annually from Feb. 1 to March 15)

πŸ‘‰ Registration Information - Whether you're a Canadian graduate or an international graduate, we have all the requirements and information readily available for you to become a licensed paramedic within Manitoba

Caring for others starts with caring for yourself 🀍

On International Self-Care Day, we're reminding all our registrants that looking after your own physical and mental well-being is an important part of providing safe, compassionate care.

Self-care looks different for everyone, whether it's taking time to rest, staying active, connecting with friends and family, or reaching out for support when you need it. Small actions can make a meaningful difference.

Today, and every day, make your well-being a priority.

As you're aware, the Program for Continuing Competency for the 2026 - 2027 cycle is live and available on our website.

This year includes some new updates, so whether you're completing PCC for the first time or you've done it before, we encourage you to review the new handbook before getting started.

πŸ’‘ For those who are currently working to move to a higher level of licensure, you may not have to complete the PCC. Don't forget to review the AE-6 policy, which outlines conditions in which you may be exempt.

For all the most up-to-date information on PCC, visit: https://collegeparamb.ca/professional-practice/program-for-continuing-competency/

Last week, Tim visited an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) class at Elite Safety Services Inc. in Winnipeg to introduce students to self-regulation and the role of CPMB in their careers (and had some fun doing it πŸ˜‚)

Whether graduates go on to work in ambulance services, fire services, dispatch, or other paramedicine-related healthcare settings, understanding professional responsibilities, standards, and the role of regulation is an important part of entering practice.

As the profession continues to evolve, including through our recently approved modernized EMR Education Framework, we're committed to engaging with students and educators to help support a smooth transition from the classroom to professional practice.

Thank you to Elite Safety Services for welcoming us and giving us the opportunity to connect with future registrants.

One of the highlights of this year's Annual General Meeting was hearing from our guest speaker, Christopher Robertson, JD, MA, BA, who shared valuable insight on how registrants can balance their freedom of personal expression on social media with professional obligations.

The presentation offered an opportunity to reflect on what you're posting on social media and how it can affect you professionally.

If you weren't able to attend the AGM, or would like to revisit the presentation, you can watch the full recording here: https://collegeparamb.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/2026-AGM-Video-Edited-002.mp4
