This year, we surprised our team with tickets to Table for 1200 as our annual staff appreciation event.

For those unfamiliar, Table for 1200 is one of Winnipeg’s most unique fundraising events- bringing together local architecture, design, food, and community in a way that celebrates everything that makes our city special. Even more meaningful, every ticket purchased helps provide a meal to someone in Winnipeg through Made With Love

When Arsh and I plan staff appreciation events, we always try to support something local. This year felt especially meaningful because it combined community, charity, and the opportunity to spend a beautiful evening together.

Academy Optical was proud to sponsor our table, and despite a few rookie decorating challenges (our cherry blossom decor spent most of the evening trying to become airborne 🌸😂), it turned out to be a night we’ll remember for a long time.

One of my favourite moments wasn’t the yummy food, the beautiful setting, or even the spectacular Hudson’s Bay Building cake- it was sitting around the table sharing what we appreciate about one another.

The recurring theme from our team was that coming to work doesn’t feel like work. They spoke about feeling supported, valued, and like they’re part of a family (the AO fam). Hearing that meant the world to Arsh and me because that’s exactly the kind of culture we’ve hoped to build 🫶🏽.

A huge thank you to , the countless volunteers, organizers, sponsors, and talented local chefs and restaurants who make this event possible year after year. The amount of work behind the scenes is truly incredible!

Grateful for our team. Grateful for our city. And grateful for evenings that remind us what community is all about. 🖤🤍💗

We’re so excited to announce that CAZAL Eyewear is now available at Academy Optical!!!!😁

Founded in Germany in 1975 by legendary designer Cari Zalloni, CAZAL became known for pushing eyewear beyond “just glasses” into wearable art. Their bold architectural designs, oversized silhouettes, gold detailing, and unmistakable craftsmanship made them iconic in fashion and hip-hop culture alike.

Many CAZAL frames feature luxurious details including 24-karat gold plating, titanium components, thick premium acetate, and intricate handcrafted finishes. Some limited-edition pieces are even individually numbered collectibles.

These frames aren’t made for people who want subtle.
They’re for people who want presence.

From Run DMC to Jay-Z, Spike Lee, and modern fashion collectors, CAZAL has remained a true statement brand for decades.

Safe to say… our staff fell in love immediately 😂
We were so obsessed, we all ended up getting our own pairs.

Come see why CAZAL has become one of the most legendary eyewear lines in the world.

One of my favorite parts about optometry is how small our community really is.

So special having .od stop by at the clinic after we were just on his podcast talking about the space and the journey behind AO. Having colleagues who genuinely support and celebrate each other is something I never take for granted 🙏🏽.

Also loved having the .nanaowusu stop by too- we went to school together, and even though we practice in the same city, life gets busy and we don’t always get the chance to visit each other’s spaces!

We also got to learn more about the new MyDay Energys contact lenses , and ended the evening with the sweetest surprise from Martha . Just one of those days that reminded me how lucky I am to be surrounded by such thoughtful, supportive people in this profession! Thanx for bringing us all together.

No matter what province or city we’re in, these friendships always pick up right where they left off. The optometry world really does feel like a family. Looking forward to more moments like this when we’re back in BC this fall!

Nothing better than mixing family time with frame styling 🕶️

Loved spending the afternoon with my out-of-town fam and helping the whole crew get summer ready- from adorable kids’ sunglasses to stunning Japanese titanium luxury frames from Masunaga. Lightweight, timeless, and crafted so beautifully! Thanx for making it so easy for them!

The kids are officially prepped for sunny adventures with their new shades and everyone left with fresh lenses.

And honestly, one of my favorite parts of this job will always be being part of those first eye exams and first eyewear moments 🥹. Such an honor getting to help guide little ones through the start of their eye care journey.

Safe to say they know whenever they visit the Peg, Dr. Auntie has them covered 🤓.

Birthday reflections feel a little different this year.

At the end of last year, one of the biggest changes of my life quietly happened… we moved.

I never really posted about it or maybe even fully processed it, I wasn’t sure how emotional it would make me. I lived in that house for almost 40 years! We moved in when I was one years old and left at 40. That little house held my entire life.

It was the house where I grew up, where my childhood bedroom eventually became my son’s nursery and then Jind’s too. The house both my babies came home to. The house that held every version of me.

The chaos. The studying. The stress. The long nights. The wedding planning. The newborn days. The laughter. The tears. All of it lived within those walls.

Somehow, somewhere along the way, got married, imported a Cali husband into the house too… and then fully renovated the whole thing 😂.

We originally thought we’d give ourselves five years before making a move, but life had other plans and we stayed for 11!

I truly thought leaving would break me emotionally. I was so attached to that home and everything it represented. But surprisingly… the transition felt gentler than I expected. Maybe because the memories don’t leave with the walls.

This is actually my first birthday not living in that house, which feels surreal to even say out loud. My cousins are in town (now with their littles) like they always are around this time, and for the first time, they aren’t staying there either. Funny how you don’t realize certain traditions are traditions until they change.

It will always be one of the luckiest, happiest homes to me. A place filled with love, milestones, chaos, comfort, and so much life ❤️.

And while this new chapter already feels like home, I just wanted to capture this moment- me sitting on a porch almost 40 years later with my own children where little me once sat.

Not everyone gets to say they spent nearly four decades in one home. What a gift that was! Will always cherish this space and now visit it with my little fam as long as I can 🙏🏽.

Today I had the honour of returning to the University of Winnipeg for the A Sikh Century of Service: Remembering Sikh Courage and Legacy exhibition- a powerful tribute to Sikh Army Veterans in Canada and the importance of keeping these stories alive.

I was grateful to be part of a panel discussion sharing our thoughts on preserving, honouring, and continuing to tell our history. Walking back through these doors as an alumni felt surreal. Twenty years is a long time….so much looked the same, yet life has changed in so many ways since my days here.

This space gave me the foundation and stepping stone toward the education that shaped my path and ultimately allowed me to practice the profession I love today. Being back here, speaking on a topic so close to my heart, was truly meaningful.

Remembering our history matters. Honouring it matters. And continuing to share it with future generations matters even more.

And apparently… it’s also never too late to finally buy your undergrad swag. 🎓😉

Thanx for the opportunity and all your efforts 🫶🏽

Did it again 🤭

Academy Optical had the pleasure of hosting our second Don’t Tell Comedy night and somehow it just keeps getting better!

A secret lineup. A hidden location revealed the morning of. And a room full of people ready to laugh.

Another sold-out night, packed with energy, connection, and so many good belly laughs. I love seeing local support local..our little space on Academy Road getting to spotlight some of Winnipeg’s incredible comedians!

And let’s just say… there were plenty of eye jokes 👀 that we clearly enjoyed 😂

Also… a much-needed date night for Harp and I (10/10 recommend mixing comedy with marriage maintenance 😂).

Already counting down to the next one!
