We wouldn’t be here without you.

August 17th is National Nonprofit day, and we're reflecting on what powers the work of ending poverty: determined entrepreneurs, resilient communities, and people like you who joyfully invest in them.

Thank you 😃

Have you ever tried berbere?

It’s a vibrant, warm spice blend at the heart of Ethiopian cooking — made with garlic, ginger, and spicy marako fana peppers 🌶️

Thanks to your support of Her Time to Grow, a group of female farmers planted a whole field of these prized peppers. Once harvested, ground, and sold at the market, their crop is projected to earn them an incredible 425% return on investment.

This is about more than just a good harvest, it’s about earning enough income to afford good food, good housing, and good education.

Thank you for helping grow good in the world 🌱

What happens when women creating traditional pottery receive the right tools and support?

Improved products, more pride and joy in their work... and a 150% boost in product value!

In rural Ethiopia, women potters face long-standing marginalization. But through donor support of the Her Time to Grow project, makers were able to build a supportive community and turn their craft into a thriving business.

By sourcing simple pottery wheels and arranging training from a master potter, these makers transformed their work:

🏺Better comfort & speed: The new technology eases daily production.

🏺Higher value: Better quality means they can charge more for their work.

🏺Community building: The group is building a dedicated studio space together.

As one member shared: “Before, we did this for income. But now, we are passionate about it!”

Thank you for championing women entrepreneurs and helping turn marginalized work into a source of lasting pride.

Thanks to Global Affairs Canada for their support of Her Time to Grow!

The iDE community is caffeinating A LOT of people!

Thanks to our donors, and partner Bean Voyage, 50 female coffee farmers in Honduras participated in a Coffee Quality Bootcamp.

During the Bootcamp they discovered that the beans they labour over were already exceptional, they just didn’t know it. Now they know how valuable their coffee is, how to improve future crops, and how to bypass middlemen to sell directly to specialty buyers.

They were able to sell 5,100 lbs of coffee beans for 10X the local market rate. That's enough to brew over one hundred thousand cups of coffee ☕☕☕☕

The iDE Honduras team worked with the women to diversify their income by raising chickens and growing high-value crops like avocados, sweet potatoes, and onions. That way, if storms, pests, or drought hits their coffee crops, their families are protected because they have other ways to earn a living. They also learned how to improve nutrition for their families, and were given water filters to help decrease illness.

Thanks a latte to Manitoba Council for International Cooperation for their support of this project!

Are you a story person, or a stats person? 📊

As the Her Time to Grow project wraps up, we’ve been collecting stats. And they’re seriously impressive!

Thanks to our community's enthusiasm and commitment over the last four years, we surpassed our target of training 25,000 women, by almost 50 percent!! 🤯

Imagine a child trying to read in class, but only seeing a blur. Or an adult looking at the night sky and never seeing stars ✨

In Ghana, this is the reality for nearly one in four people. Most vision loss is preventable, but for many, the nearest eye doctor is days away and the cost of glasses is simply unaffordable.

But thanks to donor support, clear vision is becoming accessible in underserved communities.

Through a partnership with Global Vision 2020, iDE is training local entrepreneurs to test eyesight and assemble affordable prescription glasses right in their own neighbourhoods.

During pop-up clinics in rural Ghana last year, the team tested 372 people and provided 110 pairs of glasses at a price community members could afford.

This is about more than just glasses. It’s about students thriving, adults seeing the wonder of stars, and entrepreneurs building businesses that support their families and their communitites.

This journey is just beginning, and it’s one of many incredible initiatives iDE donors helped support this past year. Discover how generosity is driving change for good in the latest Impact Report.

“I woke up one morning to find that a man had started building a house on my land" says Vivian, a single mother and farmer from rural Zambia.

For women in Zambia, losing land happens more often than you might think. Many women work on farms, but are prevented from owning them due to long-standing social and cultural norms.

But Vivian had something the man didn't — official land ownership papers.

This was possible thanks to donor support of iDE's Her Time to Grow project.

When the local Chief asked, "Who has the papers?" Vivian stepped forward. Her land was saved in an instant.

Donor support has helped 156 women (and counting) secure legal land rights — protecting their livelihoods and their families' futures.

Vivian’s triumph is just one of many great things iDE donors helped make happen this past year. Discover how generosity is driving change for good in the latest Impact Report.
