Our early relationships shape not only our memories, but the architecture of how we understand love, safety, belonging, care, responsibility… and ourselves.

Which is perhaps why the word “mother” can evoke such vastly different emotional realities within each of us.

Today can hold celebration and grief.
Closeness and distance.
Love and unresolved pain.
Relief and longing.
All at once.

There is nothing abnormal about complexity
in our human relationships.
Especially our formative ones.

Perhaps the most compassionate thing we can offer ourselves and one other today is less assumption,
less performance, and more room for
the truth of people’s lived experience…
even when that truth is layered, unfinished,
or difficult to name.

Not every story attached to “mother” sounds the same.

Sending to care to each of you, today and every day.

Some years don’t offer momentum—
they ask for presence.

They ask us to live with uncertainty
longer than what feels comfortable.
To make choices without guarantees.
To tend to what matters
while allowing other things to
loosen their hold.

For many, this year held both strain and strengthening.
Endings that clarified what could no longer continue.
Work that required more honesty.
Relationships that asked for less performing
and more truth.

Safety didn’t always arrive as ease.
Sometimes it showed up as discernment.
As embodied boundaries.
As the growing ability to stay connected to ourselves, even when things felt unsteady.

There has also been something quietly meaningful
about witnessing this year alongside others—
sharing time, space, and stories
where honesty was welcomed,
and where what was carried
didn’t have to be carried alone.

Not everything resolved.
But something essential took shape—
a sturdier sense of what aligns,
and what no longer needs to be carried forward.

As this year comes to a close,
perhaps there’s room to notice what has settled—
what was carried, what quietly strengthened,
and what no longer needs holding in the same way.

If this year asked a lot of you too,
I invite you to meet it slowly,
with curiosity. ✨
