That deep, persistent low back pain that just will not quit? Here is what the research actually says. 🙌🏼

A 2017 guideline in the Annals of Internal Medicine found acupuncture to be an "effective treatment" for acute, subacute, and chronic low back pain. The Ontario Protocol for Traffic Injury Management (OPTIMa) supports this as well, recommending acupuncture as a clinically sound option for low back pain management here in Canada.

Acupuncture helps your body release its own natural pain relievers, calms an overactive nervous system, reduces muscle tension, and improves blood flow to the area.

For a lot of people, acupuncture is "not the last thing to try." It is actually one of the best places to start. In this video, our physiotherapist Kris Seo demonstrates what acupuncture for low back pain actually looks like.

👉 Not sure if it is right for you? Come in and we can figure that out together.

Neck and upper back feeling stiff and achy? Your posture might be the one asking for attention. 💪

In this video, our physiotherapist Karim Nweilati demonstrates three exercises we often recommend:
1️⃣ Prone Shoulder CARs, 5 to 8 reps per side.
2️⃣ Wall Slides, 8 to 12 reps.
3️⃣ Quadruped Thoracic Rotation, 8 to 10 reps per side.

Aim for 2 to 3 rounds of each. Nothing too intense, just slow and controlled.

👉 Everyone is different so check with a physiotherapist before trying these, especially if symptoms are severe or getting worse.

Not sure if these are right for you? We are happy to take a look together. 🏋️

Upper back stiffness from sitting all day? We have something for that. 🤔

Our physiotherapist Dana Bubenko, BMR-PT wants you to know why this position works.

When you lie flat with arms overhead, you are encouraging your thoracic spine to extend. This counteracts any 'hunching' you've been doing during your day, decompressing your spine.

Then, breathing into your ribs gets the muscles between your thoracic vertebrae moving. Shifting to belly breathing activates the diaphragm and helps your nervous system settle. Two breathing patterns, two different benefits.

A few minutes of this can be surprisingly helpful. Dana is at our Rothesay location and would love to help you build a customized home exercise & relaxation routine.

Some people see physiotherapy tools. 🏋️

We see better movement, stronger steps, smoother workouts, and more “oh, that feels better” moments.

Electric shock feeling down your leg? Your hips and low back might be asking for attention. ⚡

These gentle stretches, demonstrated by our physiotherapist Kris Seo, can help ease tension around the glutes, hips, and lower back. When these areas are tight, they can contribute to what people call "Sciatica" = aggravation of the sciatic nerve. And nerve aggravation can create all sorts of sensations, including shocks, pain, and discomfort.

👉 Check with a physiotherapist before trying new stretches, especially if your condition is severe, you have other conditions, or your symptoms are getting worse.

Want more time in your week? While doing better work? Heck yeah! Who wouldn't?

This spring, our team has been learning how to use AI to improve our clinical documentation - and also save our therapists' time.

At our team's most recent professional development meeting, we practiced using Jane App's AI Scribe for writing better chart notes. We shared what we've all been learning, from our experience and our training from the Jane App team and beyond. 🧑‍💻

💡 Fun fact: Did you know that health information gathered with Jane's AI Scribe is never used to train Jane's LLM? That's not always the case for all electronic medical record systems. We're delighted with this extra reassurance that our patients' health information will stay protected, in line with government privacy laws, as we use AI more and more.
