St. Boniface Hospital Research

St. Boniface Hospital Research Our primary research mandates are in cardiovascular sciences, neurodegenerative disorders, agri-food research, and clinical research. First there was the St. St.

Boniface Hospital, then there was the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, and then came St. Boniface Hospital Research - which has evolved into a research campus that includes the Sakharov MRI Centre and the I.H. Asper Clinical Research Institute. Together they create and maintain a tradition of excellence in medical care, education, and research. The St. Boniface Hospital is Western Canada's first

hospital. It was founded in 1871 by the Grey Nuns, a religious congregation inspired by Mother Marguerite D'Youville. The Mission, Aims and Objectives of the Hospital were then, as they are now:

* To provide the highest quality of care to its patients and of service to its community
* To participate in the education of personnel
* To promote research for the improvement of patient care

The St. Boniface Hospital Foundation was established in 1971 as part of the centennial celebrations of the Hospital. The Foundation acts as the primary fund-raising body for the St. Boniface Hospital Inc., and promotes excellence in health care research related to the prevention and treatment of disease, the promotion of good health, and improvements in patient care. All with the overriding objective of improving individual quality of life and respecting the individual. Boniface Hospital Research is a result of the emphasis that both the Hospital and Foundation place on medical research.

We are thrilled to announce that St. Boniface Hospital Research is part of a major $41.3M international project led by the Salk Institute.

Funded by ARPA-H, this initiative explores sonogenetics—a breakthrough using ultrasound to repair nerves noninvasively. Dr. Paul Fernyhough and his team are leading a key technical track to help turn this science into a reality for patients with peripheral neuropathy.

We are proud to collaborate with prestigious partners like MIT, Scripps Research, and Duke University on this five-year journey.
