What is heavy on your heart for the ones launching a new start?

There is the temptation to blames the individual instead of the culture.

What if it's truer that we are a culture that misplaces people rather than people are getting lost themselves?

Wouldn't it be nice if connection was instant and easy?

Connection happens in the smallest of moments. Many small investments that take time. The good news is that all it takes is one small bid for connection. When that one goes well, another one, and then another one. And they won't all go well, but that's ok because you learn that no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. You can see the effort, you can notice the repair attempts and you move forward. One more small effort.

And, over time, relationships happen and you begin to belong to each other.

Send this to someone who has hung in there with all the small little steps towards each other to create a relationship of belonging with you.

70% of divorces are initiated by women. That number jumps to 90% for college educated women.

Simpy put, marriages are working better for the male than the female–but when it ends in divorce? The marriage isn't working for the husband either!!

Women have a much more accurate awareness of the health of the marriage that their husbands.

"My Marriage is Almost Dead and My Husband Doesn't Get it," works to decrease the knowledge gap between spouses.

Written for both wives and husbands, this book explores in a very hands-on practical way how great men are lousy husbands and may not even know it.

For less than a dollar, you can start a conversation that may divert your marriage from the divorce track onto the growing and healthy track!

There are few things more beautiful than a summer park filled with people laughing, talking, and enjoying the day together. It reminds us how deeply we were created for connection. And yet, appearances can be deceiving.

After more than thirty years as a therapist, I've learned that the loneliest person in the park often isn't the one sitting alone. Loneliness isn't measured by how many people surround us. It's measured by whether we feel truly known, accepted, and safe enough to be ourselves. If you've ever felt alone in a crowd, you're far from the only one.

The longing for belonging isn't a flaw to overcome. It's part of what makes us beautifully human. My hope is that this little reflection reminds you that your longing isn't something to be ashamed of—it may be pointing you toward the kind of connection your heart was created for.

A Blessing for the Quiet Longing

May you find moments that invite you to slow down, to breathe deeply, and to remember that life was never meant to be lived in constant striving.

May you discover the courage to receive love as freely as you offer it.

And when your heart aches for something more, may you recognize that longing not as a flaw to hide, but as a beautiful reminder of how you were created.

May you find the deep nourishment that comes from being truly known, genuinely loved, and quietly welcomed. And may you discover, one gentle step at a time, that the belonging your heart longs for is not beyond your reach.

May Jesus meet you in that longing—not with condemnation, but with welcome.

May He nourish your soul with His presence, surround you with people who know and love you well, and lead you, day by day, into the deep belonging for which you were created.

Amen

There is something wonderfully unhurried about this moment.

No striving. No performing. Just a creature receiving what gives it life.

I wonder if that's one of the invitations hidden inside our own longing for belonging. Maybe we spend so much energy proving our worth that we forget we were created to receive love as well as give it.

The deepest nourishment of the human heart has never been success—it's connection.

Watching these tiger cubs made me smile. One is happily nursing when the other wanders over, climbs across Mom, and joins in as though it's the most natural thing in the world. No hesitation. No apology. No wondering whether there's enough love left.

These tiger cubs don't wonder whether they deserve another cuddle or whether there's enough love to go around. They simply move closer. Watching them reminded me how deeply every human heart longs for the same thing—to be loved, known, and welcomed.

Somewhere along the way, many of us lose that confidence. We begin to wonder if we're too much, not enough, too needy, too broken, or somehow on the outside looking in. Yet beneath all those fears is something beautiful: we were created with a longing for belonging.

Perhaps that's one of the reasons Jesus so often welcomed the overlooked, the doubting, and the weary. He knew we don't simply need information—we need a place to belong. That's the journey I explore in Wired for Connection: The Jesus Way. I hope this little moment from nature reminds you that there is room for you too.
