A good friend stuggled to make funeral arrangement for his mom, because neither she or his dad wanted to talk about their end of life plans. "I wouldn't inflict this on my worst enemy", he told me.

As we wrap up another incredible year with the Green Burial Society of Canada, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us for our 2026 Annual General Meeting.

One year ago, I was honoured to be entrusted with the role of President of the GBSC. Looking back, I am so proud of what we have accomplished together as a 100% volunteer-led Canadian organization.

This year has been one of tremendous growth. We expanded our membership, welcomed and certified more funeral service providers alongside cemeteries, strengthened our certification and vetting process, increased our educational outreach, and continued building a national network of professionals committed to environmentally responsible death care. From our Green Burial Cafés and EcoFair participation to recognition in International Magazine, it has been inspiring to see green burial continue to gain momentum across Canada.

More importantly, we have continued to demonstrate that our role is not simply to advocate, but to educate, support, and connect people who share a vision for more sustainable end-of-life care. Green burial remains at the heart of our mission, while recognizing that meaningful environmental stewardship can extend throughout the entire bereavement journey.

To our Board of Directors, thank you for your countless volunteer hours, your thoughtful conversations and dedication. Your passion and generosity make this Society what it is, and I am grateful to serve alongside each of you.

To our members, certified partners, supporters, and friends across Canada, thank you for being part of our Society. Your trust and commitment continue to strengthen this movement, and together we are helping create meaningful change in Canadian death care.

I am excited for what lies ahead and look forward to another year of learning, growing, and working together.
