With the warm weather finally here, it’s tempting to put your health routine on “pause” until the autumn. 🏖️

But before you cancel your upcoming appointments, let’s talk about why summer is actually the most critical time to keep up with your physiotherapy and chiropractic care.

Here are 5 reasons to keep your appointments on the calendar this season:

🏃‍♂️ Your activity level just spiked: Suddenly, you’re gardening, golfing, hiking, or playing beach volleyball. This sudden jump in movement puts a brand-new load on your joints. We ensure your body is actually prepared for it so you avoid injuries.

🛑 Don’t lose your progress: If you’ve spent the winter and spring healing an injury or improving your mobility, a 2-month break can cause major regression. Maintenance is much easier than starting over from square one in September!

⛰️ Outdoor terrain is unpredictable: Swapping the flat gym treadmill for uneven hiking trails or asphalt running paths changes your biomechanics. We help tweak your form so you don’t end up with shin splints or tendonitis.

🚗 Road trips & flights take a toll: Long hours cramped in a car or airplane seat compress your spine and tighten your hips. A quick tune-up before and after you travel keeps the vacation stiffness away.

🕒 Flexible summer schedules: With summer hours and lighter work weeks, it’s actually the easiest time to prioritize yourself without the frantic rush.

Think of your care as the ultimate insurance policy for your summer plans. Let’s keep you moving safely all season long! ☀️✨

Protein is having a major moment right now, but with all the hype comes a lot of misinformation. Let’s clear the air and separate food facts from fiction. 🧠✨

Here are 3 of the biggest protein myths completely debunked by science:

❌ Myth 1: High protein diets damage your kidneys.

The Reality: For individuals with existing chronic kidney disease, managing protein intake is crucial. However, for healthy individuals, extensive scientific research shows that higher protein intakes do not harm kidney function or filtration. Your body is fully equipped to handle it!

❌ Myth 2: You can only absorb 30 grams of protein in one sitting.

The Reality: Your body will absorb virtually 100% of the amino acids you eat—it doesn’t just discard the rest! While 30 to 40 grams is often cited as the optimal amount to maximize muscle protein synthesis (building/repairing muscle) at one time, any extra protein is simply used for other bodily structures, or broken down for energy.

❌ Myth 3: Eating a lot of protein will automatically make you bulky.

The Reality: Protein alone does not build massive muscle. To get “bulky,” you need a progressive, heavy strength training routine combined with a consistent caloric surplus (eating more calories than you burn). Protein is just the building block; you still have to build the house.

The Takeaway? Protein keeps you full, preserves lean muscle, and supports healthy tissue repair. Don’t fear the macro! 🍗🍳🌱

💬 Which of these myths have you heard the most? Let us know in the comments below!

Let’s talk about a major misconception: the idea that as we get older, we need to slow down, stick to light weights, or just do endless cardio. 🙅‍♀️

In reality, if you’re a woman over 40, strength training isn’t optional—it’s your superpower. 💪✨

As our bodies transition through the 40s and beyond, changing hormone levels mean we naturally start to lose muscle mass and bone density. But you have the power to change the narrative.

Here is why picking up those weights is a total game-changer:

🦴 Protects Your Bones: Weight-bearing exercise stimulates bone growth, significantly lowering the risk of osteoporosis.

🔥 Boosts Metabolism: Muscle is metabolically active tissue. The more lean muscle you have, the more energy your body burns—even at rest.

🔋 Increases Energy & Vitality: Strength training improves joint stability, balance, and stamina, making everyday life feel a whole lot easier.

🧠 Mental Clarity & Mood: Lifting weights releases endorphins, reduces stress, and boosts confidence like nothing else.

Don’t worry about “bulking up”—women don’t naturally have the testosterone levels for that. Instead, expect to feel tight, toned, energized, and capable of taking on the world. 👑

It is never too late to start, and you are never too old to get strong.

Last up, we have Prachi!

1️⃣ How long have you been practicing?
I have been practicing for 1.5 yrs now
2️⃣ What’s your favourite injury / ailment to treat and why?
I’m particularly interested in treating tendon-related conditions like tendinitis and tendinopathies because I find the rehab process very rewarding. Progressive loading, correcting movement mechanics, and gradually helping patients return to activity can make a huge difference in both pain and function. I like seeing how the body adapts and responds when rehab is done properly.
I also like treating back pain and scoliosis because every case is unique and there are so many structures and movement patterns involved. I find it interesting to analyze the mechanical dysfunctions that may be contributing to pain and piece everything together like a puzzle. Understanding how different areas of the body influence one another and identifying the root cause, rather than just treating symptoms, makes it very rewarding for me.
3️⃣ How long have you been at FFRW?
9 months!
4️⃣ Biggest pet-peeve?
When I see cluster of tiny holes at once. OMG even saying this feels so weird 😂
5️⃣ Why did you become a physio?
My interest in the field became more personal after seeing my mom undergo knee surgery at a relatively young age, which showed me how much pain and movement limitations can affect daily life. I chose physiotherapy because I’ve always been interested in helping people through a more conservative, movement-based approach to recovery. I enjoy working with people, helping them move better.

Thank you Prachi!

It’s Sina’s turn!
Sina! Tell us a bit about yourself ⬇️

1️⃣ How long have you been practicing?
I’ve been practicing physiotherapy for 4 years now, and I’ve really enjoyed helping people move better, recover from injuries, and get back to doing what they love.

2️⃣ What’s your favourite injury / ailment to treat and why?
Ankle and shoulder injuries are probably my favourites to treat. I’ve had my fair share of ankle sprains over the years, so I understand firsthand what patients are going through and what it takes to recover properly and get back to activity quickly and confidently.

3️⃣ How long have you been at FFRW?
I’ve been at FFRW for 2.5 years now, and I really enjoy being part of a team that focuses on helping patients achieve their goals and feel their best.

4️⃣ Biggest pet peeve?
People cutting in line — instant loss of trust.

5️⃣ Why did you become a physio?
I became a physio because it’s incredibly rewarding to help people achieve their goals, overcome pain, and get back to their normal lives — whether that’s everyday activities or returning to the sports and hobbies they enjoy.

Thanks Sina!

Next up ➡️ Vishal !

1️⃣ How long have you been practicing?
I have more than 18 years of experience as an international physiotherapist, but in Ontario, it’s been almost 10 years of experience.

2️⃣ What’s your favorite injury / ailment to treat and why?
One of my favorite areas to treat is shoulder injuries because the shoulder is one of the most commonly overused and injured regions of the body. Whether it’s caused by repetitive strain, sports activities, poor posture, or workplace demands, shoulder pain can significantly affect daily function and quality of life. Over the years, I’ve gained extensive experience treating a wide variety of shoulder conditions, which has helped me develop a deeper understanding of shoulder biomechanics and movement patterns. I enjoy assessing how the shoulder complex functions as a whole and identifying the underlying cause of dysfunction rather than only treating symptoms. What makes shoulder rehabilitation especially rewarding is that treatment can be highly individualized. Different injuries respond better to different physiotherapy approaches, whether it’s improving mobility, restoring strength and stability, correcting movement mechanics, or gradually returning patients to sport and activity. I find it very satisfying to guide patients through that recovery process and help them regain confidence in their movement.

3️⃣How long have you been at FFRW?
It’s been over 7 years now!

4️⃣ Biggest pet-peeve?
When people are disorganized

5️⃣ Why did you become a physio?
I became a physiotherapist because I enjoy helping people recover from injuries and improve their quality of life. I’ve always been interested in movement, biomechanics, and rehabilitation, and physiotherapy allows me to combine that interest with direct patient care. I also like that every case is different and requires problem-solving and individualized treatment.
