Today is World Su***de Prevention Day, a day to make space for open and honest conversations about su***de and to better understand the many experiences, challenges, and circumstances that can lead someone to think about su***de.
Did you know that NTHSSA clients may be asked about su***de when they visit a health cabin, health centre, or hospital? Su***de risk screening and assessment are part of our health assessment and intake processes when people receive care from a health care provider. We ask these questions because we care about the people we serve. Creating space to talk about su***de, listening without judgement, and being there for one another can help us recognize when someone may need support.
Su***de prevention is something we all have a role in. Our relationships with family, friends, community, culture, and one another can help us feel connected and supported. Sometimes, simply taking the time to check in, listen, and let someone know they are not alone can make a difference.
If you have questions about su***de prevention or would like to learn more, the NTHSSA has a webpage with information and resources, including ways to talk about su***de, training opportunities, available supports, and contact information.
