With the recent rains, and warm weather we are having, conditions are favorable for cereal leaf diseases. Early scouting and adding a fungicide with your herbicides can help reduce the impact that leaf diseases can cause on cereal crop yields.
Talk to your rep about protecting your crops yield and keeping the plant healthy.

As cereals enter early growth stages, consistent scouting is essential to protect yield potential. Early pest pressure can escalate quickly if left unchecked.

πŸ” Watch for & damage signs:
β€’ Aphids – curled leaves, sticky residue, and stunted plants from sap feeding and disease transmission
β€’ Cereal leaf beetle – window-paning or skeletonized leaves from feeding larvae and adults
β€’ Cutworms – clipped seedlings or missing plants, often found near the soil surface
β€’ Grasshoppers – ragged leaf edges and defoliation, especially in warm, dry conditions
β€’ Wireworms – poor emergence, weak stands, and damaged roots or hollowed seedlings
β€’ Wheat midge – orange adults at heading and feeding damage causing shriveled or missing kernels
β€’ Wheat stem sawfly – lodged stems and hollowed stems from larvae feeding inside the plant

It's hard to predict when disease is going to hit. There are many factors to consider for a disease to set it. You need a host crop, the right conditions, the right timing & crop stage, and the disease itself.
Blackleg is an early season disease in canola that can be hard to predict. You don't normally see symptoms until it's too late, and by then the damage is done. Early season scouting and control can help prevent late infection and yield loss.
For products to help reduce your risk of Blackleg infection in canola, talk to your rep.

Grasshoppers are a common pest across Saskatchewan during warm, dry conditions. They feed on leaves and stems, causing chewing damage that can thin crop stands and reduce yield potential.

Early scouting is key β€” young grasshoppers are easier to control before populations and feeding damage increase. Keep an eye on field edges where activity often starts first. 🌾🚜

Contact your local rep to discuss scouting, monitoring, and control options.
