Hot take: Potato salads are underrated. 🥔

Not just in a foodie sense, but in a nutritional sense too.

Cooked and cooled potatoes create something called reaistant starches.

I know I can't be the only one, because there are reasons this happens.

As your period approaches, your hormones - estrogen and progesterone - fall.

Estrogen supports serotonin, dopamine and emotional regulation.

Progesterone has calming effects. Think of it like the chill, anti anxiety hormone.

Well... when both of those supportive hormones drop, the result can be more sensitivity, less emotional buffering and a quick release valve on the tears.

There's a few things you should know about this:

✨ you're not weak, you just don't have the same hormonal emotional buffer you do earlier in your cycle

✨your brain is more reactive right now and stress hits harder, even if nothing "new" is happening

✨ crying is not a breakdown, it is a nervous system release when tolerance is lower

✨ emotions that were easy to ignore earlier in the cycle often come forward because suppression is harder

📣And this part matters:
if you feel like you're absolutely falling apart, it may be more than a bit of extra sensitivity. You could be dealing with exaggerated hormone withdrawal, chronic stress, low serotonin, blood sugar instability, or nutrient deficiencies like magnesium or B6.

This phase does not create emotions. It removes the padding around them.

For the most part, I’ve kept my personal life and professional life separate on this page. But the reality is, I’m a human with human struggles and probably a lot more than I let on.

While the Washington Post article came for me on a professional level it also attacked my character, values and integrity as a person and so I wanted to come on live to chat about that candidly.
