MEMBER SPOTLIGHT 💪 - PHIL
Meet Phil.
Eight years ago, Phil walked through the doors of The Angry Vegan hoping to do something he’d never managed before.
Like many people, he’d joined commercial gyms in the past, only to stop going after six weeks and never return. This time, he wanted something different. He wanted to get fitter, stronger and, most importantly, find a routine he could stick to.
He admits he was both excited and apprehensive.
Eight years later, we’d say it’s worked.
Phil now trains in our PT sessions and Pump Club, and says the coaching is what keeps him coming back. Alongside that is the sense of community that comes from training in a small, private gym where people genuinely get to know one another.
One thing that surprised him was just how demanding the workouts were at first, and then how quickly his body adapted.
The numbers tell their own story.
When Phil started, his goal was to squat 100kg for 10 reps. Today, that’s part of his warm-up. His current personal best is a 160kg back squat, around one and a half times his bodyweight.
His kettlebell journey has been just as impressive. He began with 12kg kettlebells and now trains confidently with 20kg bells, with his sights firmly set on competing in kettlebell sport using 24kg kettlebells for a full 10-minute set.
For Phil, though, the biggest achievements aren’t measured in kilos.
He has more energy, sleeps better, feels more self-assured and says his mental health has never been stronger.
He believes one of the biggest strengths of The Angry Vegan is the coaching.
“The coaches are brilliant. They’re incredibly knowledgeable and know exactly how much to challenge you. That’s a remarkable skill.”
His advice to anyone thinking about joining?
“The framework is there for everyone to succeed, no matter who they are or where they’re starting from. You just have to stick with it and be consistent.”
Thank you for eight years of hard work, Phil. Here’s to the next challenge and that 24kg kettlebell competition. 👏🧡
