🌸World Menopause Day | 18 October

Menopause deserves more conversation, understanding and support.

Perimenopause and menopause can affect so many aspects of life, our health, confidence, energy, relationships and working lives. Yet it can still be difficult to know where to turn, what is happening to our bodies, or who we can talk to openly.

We don’t need to have all the answers. Sometimes, simply being listened to, sharing experiences and knowing we’re not alone can make a real difference.

That’s one of the reasons I’ve been thinking about creating something new for Fontana Nutrition ☕

Introducing Menopause Café - Coffee & Conversation🤍

A small, relaxed gathering in Basel where women can meet over a coffee, talk openly and connect with others navigating perimenopause and menopause.

No workshop or lecture. Just conversation, shared experiences and practical, evidence-based nutrition tips along the way.

Our first gathering will be on Saturday 14 November at 10am. ☕

I’d love to welcome you to a relaxed, friendly space where women feel comfortable asking questions, sharing experiences, listening to one another and learning together.

If you’d like to join us, send me a message for more details. 💛

💫 Chocolate quinoa cake

* 2 cups cooked, cooled quinoa,
* 4 eggs
* 1/2 cup almond milk, or milk of choice
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 3/4 cup melted and cooled coconut oil
* 3/4 cup coconut sugar, more of you like it sweeter (the cake is a little bitter)
* 1 cup raw cocoa powder
* 11/2 teaspoon baking powder
* 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

1. In a large bowl, sift together all the dry ingredients, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and sea salt.
2. In a blender, combine the cooled quinoa, eggs, almond milk (or preferred milk), vanilla extract and coconut oil.
Blend until smooth & creamy.
3. Add the wet ingredients with the dry and fold together until well-combined. Pour the mixture into a cake tin and bake for 30 minutes at 180 Oc
4. Remove the cake from the oven and set aside to cool Note: When warm it's delicate, so wait until cooled before transferring to a plate.
5. Decorate as you like.

🤎Why I love this cake
Quinoa adds protein and fibre, while the eggs contribute extra protein. It's naturally gluten-free, and great to make ahead and take to work for an afternoon snack when you fancy something 🤍

Surprising food facts you may not know 💫
Of course, one food isn't necessarily "better" than the other - it's the quality and variety of your overall diet that matters. But it's a great excuse to mix things up and get plenty of variety on your plate 🩵

Which fact surprised you the most?

Eating Well with a Low Appetite 🍽️
Eating well isn't always easy when your appetite is low.
Low appetite can occur for many reasons, including:• Stress and busy lifestyles
• Certain medications, including GLP-1 • Menopause• Illness or recovery• Ageing

When appetite is low, eating enough to meet your nutritional needs can become more challenging. Consistently eating less may mean your body receives fewer essential vitamins, minerals, protein and other nutrients needed to support energy, strength, immune function and overall wellbeing.
That's why I'm hosting a talk next week on:
✨ How to Eat Well When Your Appetite Is Low

We'll discuss:✔ Simple meal and snack ideas✔ How to make meals more nutrient-dense✔ Practical ways to prioritise protein and other key nutrients✔ Strategies for eating well when a full meal feels overwhelming✔ Tips for making every bite count
Together, we'll discuss practical everyday tips to help you meet your nutritional needs when appetite is low and support your long-term health and wellbeing 💫
