"morbida e dura"
"soft and hard"
After my daily 20-minute Italian lesson, the words "soft" and "hard" remain in my head.
Gently, I touch the wound on my leg. After the operation, the tissue in this area was very hard. To compare the other side, it is clear, "dura e morbida".
Few times daily, I massage the leg around the wound; it becomes softer and softer, and I feel that the local blood circulation is much better, the energy flows better, the color is no longer so dark, and my ankle becomes more mobile.
The local sensitivity to touch, especially in the abdominal area, and the local skin temperature are an important factor for diagnosis in Chinese medicine, in addition to the well-known pulse diagnosis.
When we reach middle age or even before, everyone's belly is a sign of our inner health. If we touch it carefully, we will notice that the temperature of the whole abdomen is not really even, and we might find some lumps or even streaks under the skin. Check, palpate ourselves regularly at home and feel whether there is anything abnormal, before when it becomes necessary to visit a medical Doctor or a therapist.
If the abdomen is soft but sluggish and locally cold, along with feeling weak, thick tongue coating, lack of energy, drowsiness and unformed stools, then the main problem may lie in the digestive system. If around the stomach area feels hard and bulging, accompanied by constipation, bad breath or irritability and insomnia, it's worth looking at and adjusting the diet.
These are just some examples, but if we find asymmetrical lumps in the armpits or anywhere else on the body, this is a signal from the body. Of course, this does not mean that we already have something serious, but it is worth paying attention to see if there are changes in size, shape and color. Gentle self-massage or acupressure can be a very effective aid. After a few days of self-treatment, some of the lumps might disappear, and the tissue might get softer.
Most of us have held a healthy baby in our arms before. That is the feeling, evenly warm and soft.
“You don’t have to look into the mirror to see if you are getting older; just move yourself to see if you are still flexible and soft, and not only your body, but also your mind.” Once my Taiji Teacher said.
Stay flexible and soft.
I wish you a gentle and bright 2024.
