Worried that your child will become a "difficult teenager"? That they will suffer from depression, anxiety, eating disorders or behavioral problems?
Emotional problems (emotional regulation disorders) play a role in the development of psychopathologies and here is the good news: they can be prevented!
Emotional regulation techniques can be learned from an early age, either through preventive or positive (strengthening competences) intervention.
Some examples of possible interventive techniques:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (changing dysfunctional thought patterns)
- Emotional-Focused CBT
- "Coping Power" (for children/adolescents with agression problems)
- "mindfulness" (learning how to accept their emotions, consciously, present)
- "expressive writing" (learning how to express and process their emotions)
- "positive youth development" (learning how to be grateful for what they have and focus on how to be happy)
Encouraging note: most adolescents go through their teenage years without too much emotional disturbance. But, if you detect emotional problems early on, you can change their (teenage) life by helping them learn emotional regulation skills early on.
