We are deeply saddened by the passing of Prof Dr José Soares Hungria Neto, AO Honorary Trustee and a pioneering force in orthopedic trauma care.
A visionary leader and educator, Hungria Neto played a defining role in bringing AO principles to Latin America and was instrumental in the founding of AO Latin America. Through his dedication, he helped build a thriving community of surgeons committed to improving patient care across the region.
For more than five decades, he combined surgical excellence, academic leadership, and an unwavering commitment to teaching—shaping generations of orthopedic surgeons and advancing fracture care in Brazil and beyond.
His legacy lives on in the AO community he helped build, in the countless surgeons he mentored, and in the patients whose lives were improved through his work.
