Interview with Alexander Schramm, new Chairperson of the AO Technical Commission for Craniomaxillofacial Surgery

This , we’re delighted to announce Alexander Schramm as the new Chairperson of the AO Technical Commission for CMF. As a distinguished oral and maxillofacial surgeon based in Ulm, Germany, he brings powerful expertise around the integration of advanced technologies into CMF surgery.

What inspired him to take on the new role?
“What motivates me most is the possibility of improving patient outcomes on a global scale. Through the Technical Commission, we can help identify unmet clinical needs, support meaningful innovation, and ensure that new technologies address real challenges faced by surgeons and patients. I see this as a responsibility as well as a privilege.”

Using unique multiaxial bioreactors, researchers can replicate real-life spinal movement and observe how mechanical stress affects disc tissue and triggers biological responses linked to pain.

Interview with Rick Bransford, new Chairperson of the AO Technical Commission Spine

This , we’re honored to announce Rick Bransford as the new Chairperson of the AO Technical Commission Spine. Based at Harborview Medical Center, Seattle, Rick is a renowned expert in complex spinal surgery and influential in the evaluation and adoption of new surgical technologies including robotics.

What inspired him to take on the new role?

“Working with the AO TC means that my efforts can positively impact multiple patients and surgeons globally.... what drives me is a desire to make meaningful changes for the betterment of humanity.”

And his vision for the AO TC Spine in the coming years?
“My overarching aim is to change perspectives and remove barriers to potential collaborations between innovation, education and evidence creation: after all, we’re just different parts of the same AO Spine family.”
