For most of my life, I tried to understand why I was anxious., why I felt different, why my back hurt, why I reacted the way I did.
I found some answers in books, therapies, spirituality, psychology, meditation…but nothing changed the fact that I was still restless.
Much later, sound was slowly teaching me to experience what was happening instead of immediately trying to explain it.
Sound became important because it brought my attention back to my body.
Thirty years ago, if my lower back hurt, the pain became my whole identity. My mind immediately started looking for answers, solutions and something to fight.
Today the pain is still an experience. Sometimes pleasant, sometimes not. But it is no longer the whole story.
The horse doesn’t spend the day wondering whether it should be a cow.
The cow doesn’t question whether it is living the right life.
They simply experience what is here.
I don’t think I’d enjoy become the horse or the cow, but I do think we have forgotten something they never lost.
Sometimes the deepest form of listening isn’t finding another answer.
It’s finally allowing yourself to experience your own life.
