This week we asked a simple question: why does the same cup of coffee affect two people so differently?
The answer lives in one enzyme — CYP1A2 — and the gene that controls how fast it works. Fast metabolizers clear caffeine quickly. Slow metabolizers don't, which is why an afternoon espresso can cost them a night's sleep.
The newer twist is paraxanthine supplements that aim to bypass the whole conversion. Mechanistically clever. Clinically, still early days.
If you read one thing this week, read this one.
