Heart recovery journey – combining shock waves and exercise therapy. ❤️

Extracorporeal cardiac shock wave therapy (CSWT) is being investigated as a non-invasive approach in cardiology. A recently published randomised controlled trial by Wan et al. examined the combination of CSWT with exercise rehabilitation in patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention for coronary heart disease.

In the study, CSWT was delivered using the MODULITH SLC. The combined intervention was associated with changes in parameters related to inflammatory markers and oxygen uptake, exercise capacity and other aspects of cardiac rehabilitation.

What can these findings tell us about combining shock waves and exercise therapy?

Parkinson’s disease affects both body and mind — and research continues to explore new therapeutic approaches.🧠

Transcranial Pulse Stimulation (TPS) uses targeted acoustic pulses to stimulate specific brain regions non-invasively. Early clinical studies are investigating its potential impact on both motor and non-motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease.

What do current findings tell us, and where could research go next?

Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT) for Chronic Musculoskeletal Disorders

High-energy magnetic pulses and a non-invasive application make EMTT a valuable treatment option in therapy and rehabilitation.

Typical application areas include lower back pain, arthrosis, as well as inflammation of tendons and joints. Short treatment sessions, individual parameter settings and the possibility of combining EMTT with Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) allow for flexible integration into clinical practice.

Not all magnetic therapies are the same.

Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT) and Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) share certain similarities, yet differ substantially in the way electromagnetic energy is generated and delivered to biological tissue.

Recognising these differences can help clinicians better understand the technology and interpret the available clinical evidence.

Fencing World Championships in Hong Kong: Recovery at the highest level 🤺

At a World Championship, the smallest details can make all the difference — not only on the piste, but also in medical care and recovery. We are therefore delighted that our technology was able to support the German national team directly at the competition venue.

A special highlight of these World Championships: Larissa Eifler wins gold for Germany in the women’s sabre — congratulations on this outstanding achievement! 🥇🤺

We are proud that our MASTERPULS R-SW100, combining radial shock wave therapy and vibration therapy, contributed to the medical care of the German national fencing team.

🏀 Two technologies. One new collaboration in professional basketball.

We are pleased to welcome SIG Strasbourg Basket among the sports organisations working with STORZ MEDICAL technologies.

Following an evaluation period during the final weeks of the French Championship season, the club’s medical team has integrated two complementary technologies into its treatment portfolio:

✔️ DUOLITH SD1 T-Top »ultra« –Focused Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)
✔️ MAGNETOLITH ultra+ – Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT)

We thank the SIG Strasbourg organisation for their trust and our colleagues at STORZ MEDICAL France for their close collaboration with the club’s medical and management teams.

We are proud to see our technologies being incorporated into the treatment concepts by experienced healthcare professionals at one of France’s established basketball clubs and wish the players, medical staff and management a successful preparation for the upcoming season.

See you on the court! 🏀

Alzheimer's disease in focus: What should you know about Transcranial Pulse Stimulation (TPS)? 🧠

TPS is a non-invasive brain stimulation therapy for patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

The treatment uses acoustic pulses to stimulate targeted brain regions through the intact skull. With image-guided navigation, each pulse can be tracked in real time while the treatment is adapted to the individual anatomy of the patient.

A typical treatment course consists of six outpatient sessions over two weeks, with each session lasting around 30 minutes. No anaesthesia is required, and patients remain awake and can move freely throughout the treatment.

Clinical studies suggest improvements in overall cognitive performance, particularly memory and language abilities, as well as depressive symptoms. Research has also observed changes in how different brain areas connect and work together.

TPS is used as an add-on therapy and may complement standard medical care such as medication, cognitive training and rehabilitation.

🔎 Clinical Decision-Making | Where does focused shock wave therapy fit into the management of calcific tendinopathy?

A patient presented with persistent shoulder pain and functional limitations. Clinical examination and radiographic findings were consistent with calcific tendinopathy of the shoulder. As part of an individualised treatment strategy, the treating healthcare professional decided to include non-invasive focused Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) in the patient's treatment plan. Six treatment sessions were performed over approximately three and a half months.

💡 Clinical Insight
When focused ESWT is considered, the clinical objectives may include addressing pain and functional limitations while targeting the calcific deposit.

The accompanying radiographs document the patient's clinical course from the initial assessment to follow-up.

Thank you to Laurent Dussourt and STORZ MEDICAL France for sharing this clinical case and contributing to scientific exchange within the clinical community.
