Tanja Iovene Yoga Empowering you to improve your health and well-being through the practice of Therapeutic Yoga. Namaste,

Tanja

I’m a 200-hour alignment-based yoga teacher, pre-and postnatal yoga teacher, and a lifelong student of yoga who’s currently studying towards a 500-hour therapeutic yoga teacher certificate with Yoga Medicine. I’ve studied pre -and postnatal yoga with Birthlight both in Finland and Switzerland and did my 200-hour teacher training with Purna Yoga Helsinki. Yoga came into my life for the first time i

n 2010 and it’s been an important part of my life ever since. I’ve been assisting my teacher Tove Palmgren twice at her annual yoga retreat in Spain and will be there assisting her and learning from her in 2022 as well. I also take private yoga and meditation classes with her once a week to deepen my own practice of yoga and through that, better serve my own students. I’m also a wife, a mother of two, and a nature lover who loves running, hiking and just spending time outdoors as much as possible. I’m passionate about cooking and spreading the joy of preparing simple homemade meals. In my blog, I share the recipes of my yummiest plant-based recipes along with topics related to yoga, motherhood, outdoor adventures. I love Young Living essential oils, their toxin-free products, and how these little bottles of plant power have made it possible for me to create a healthier and more uplifting environment for my family to live in. If this is something that interests you, I am more than happy to share what I’ve learned over the years so that you can benefit from these products the way I have. I’m originally from Finland and have been living in Switzerland since 2017 with my Italian husband and our two children. To me, yoga is a way of living and goes far beyond the physical exercise done on the mat. I embrace all aspects of yoga and strive to make every day a joyful journey. In order to truly be able to shine and feel alive, you need to take care of yourself on many levels. Daily meditation,

healthy & organic food,

applying the wisdoms of yogic philosophy into day-to-day life and

practicing asana & pranayama
are the key principles of creating a meaningful, joyful, and healthy life. My passion is to help people find the joy and importance of daily movement, freedom of breath, and calmness of the mind through yoga poses, breathwork, and meditation. As a mother myself, I feel a deep desire to help other women in their pregnancy and postnatal journeys by offering them a welcoming space and safe yet effective yoga practice that supports their wellbeing during these transformative times in their lives. I am so happy & grateful to have you here in my virtual space and I hope this to be an inspiring place that helps you to transform your life in a way that you can live it to your greatest potential. I’m here to support you so if you have any questions or would like to share a piece of yourself with me just drop me a message and I’ll be happy to get back to you soon!

One of countless examples of making a pose work for you instead of forcing yourself to fit the pose.

Urdhva Dhanurasana has never been one of my favourite yoga poses, and it may never be. But difficult poses often show us where our limitations are and give us ideas about what we might want to explore in our practice. If I only practised what already felt easy, I wouldn’t learn nearly as much about my body.

Placing blocks under my hands reduces the mobility demand on my shoulders and gives my chest and upper back more space to move. It allows me to practise the actions of the pose without forcing myself into a shape my body cannot currently make comfortably.

A pose isn’t successful because it looks a certain way. Our proportions, mobility, injury history, and anatomy are all different.

The goal isn’t to make your body fit the pose.

The goal is to make the pose fit your body.

Recovery comes in many forms.

It can look like massage guns, ice baths, or foam rollers. Or it can look as simple as this.

My legs voted for a few minutes up the wall because they know this feels good after all the training they’ve been doing lately.

They might ask for something else later, but right now this is all they need.

Eyes closed, legs elevated, and intentional breathing are enough to help me shift into recovery mode.

Not my fastest run, but there’s something deeply satisfying about these numbers. 😄

10.00 km. 6:00/km. 1h 0m.

It was the kind of run that leaves both the runner and the perfectionist in me happy. 😉

An end of an era.

Five years, hundreds of classes, and countless Friday mornings later, it’s time to say goodbye to this space.

I’ve taught yoga on Friday mornings in this studio space in Thalwil since 2021. Today was the last yoga class I taught here.

Over the years, this space has become an important one for me in many ways. I’ve grown one of my best classes in this space, and many of the students who were there in 2021 are still regulars in the same class today. Some of them had already been coming to my classes for years before that.

I feel so much gratitude for each and every one of my students who have been part of this journey.

Only about six months after I started teaching here, I moved to Bellinzona with my family, yet I’ve continued coming here to teach ever since. Every Friday, for most of the year. This has given me the opportunity not only to do what I love—teach yoga—but also to meet my friends who live in the Zürich area.

On top of teaching my regular Friday morning yoga class, I’ve taught courses and private classes ranging from pre- and postnatal yoga to therapeutic yoga for back pain, as well as workshops alongside amazing wellness professionals like Amal |Author & Holistic Nutrition Coach and Lotte Kaeller-Cox

MALAYOGA | Dina De Paola is moving to a new studio space just a two-minute walk from the current location this summer, and yes, I will continue teaching yoga in the new place 😃 The time and type of yoga will stay the same; only the space is different.

I can’t wait to see my students again on August 21st and hopefully meet a few new faces as well. The new studio has much more empty wall space, which means we can finally do a lot of fun things at the wall, even when the group is bigger.

I can’t wait to see what we’ll create in the new space.

Running may be what gets me out the door, but recovery is what allows me to keep doing it week after week.

It took me a while to appreciate this.

Like many runners, I used to focus mostly on the running itself. These days, I pay much more attention to what happens afterwards.

For me, recovery often looks like restorative yoga, good food, quality sleep, and simply giving my body time to absorb the work that’s been done.

The run and the recovery may look very different, but both serve the same goal:

to stay healthy, resilient, and able to keep doing the activities I love.

Challenge and rest go hand in hand.

Both belong in a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. Both are equally important.

It’s not either-or. It’s both.

Restorative yoga and breathwork are my way of saying thank you to my body after a challenging run, hike, or day of adventure. They help me shift from a state of activity into a state of rest and recovery, reduce stress, and create the conditions for recovery to begin.

How do you say “thank you” to your body after asking a lot from it?

I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend my birthday. 🥳

~ 12 km of hiking with family in the mountains
4+ hours in the fresh air, surrounded by beautiful nature
Movement that nourished mind, body, and soul

My 43rd year around the sun has started strong, grounded, and grateful.💚

It was a fairly long trail run/hike, but the distance wasn’t the challenge.

The challenge was being alone in the unknown.

Out of my comfort zone. Big time.

I almost turned around and returned to the village the same way I had come up to the San Bernardino Pass. Not because the trail was difficult, but because I was afraid to venture out all alone into the unknown, wild nature.

At times, it felt as though I had the entire mountain to myself. That sounded much more appealing in theory than it did in practice. 😅

But, I’m so glad I didn’t turn back.

After a short pause to decide what to do, I eventually chose the scary looking mountain trail back to the village exactly as I had originally planned.

On the way back, I saw three people.

Three.

But that was enough to make me feel a little less alone and a lot more relaxed.

I ran most of the second half of the route, and I think that helped too. There wasn’t much room left for overthinking when I was focused on the trail, my breath, and the incredible scenery around me.

In the end, I covered 14 kilometres and 546 metres of elevation gain.

But the numbers aren’t what I’ll remember most.
What I’ll remember most is that I continued despite feeling uncomfortable.

It was a great little solo adventure, and I’m pretty sure I’m a bit braver now than I was at the start of it.

And for the record, I didn’t see any wolves, bears, or other dangerous creatures.

Just my own scary thoughts. 😉🏔️🏃‍♀️

Tell me I’m not the only one: does anyone else love the mountains and still feel a little uneasy when they’re completely alone out there?
