Wearables give you data. This 60-second test gives you an answer. Sometimes the answer is: don't train today.
The Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) recovery test — used by strength coaches and endurance athletes — often predicts training readiness more accurately than morning wearable metrics for that specific day. Do 20 slow bodyweight squats at a controlled pace. Rate the perceived effort on a 1-10 scale. Your baseline is what you score the first 3 mornings you test yourself in a normal, fresh state.
Interpretation: within 1 point of baseline → train as planned. 1-2 points higher → train but reduce intensity 20%. 3+ points higher → the body is telling you something. Do mobility, walk, or rest.
Test tomorrow morning. Do it 3 mornings when you're feeling normal to establish baseline. Then use it as your daily 60-second check. Pair with Ring 360 HRV trend for the fullest picture — subjective and objective, both matter.
