I was gifted with some vegetables from a loved garden today 🥰
As I unpacked them, I couldn't help thinking about everything they carried with them. the time, the patience, the watering, the waiting, the attention. Food doesn't simply appear. It is the result of care.
When I cooked dinner this evening, I found myself being a lot more aware, to do it justice. Almost as if the care that had gone into growing those vegetables had naturally become part of the meal I was preparing.
That dinner then became something I shared with my family, and in that simple act, the original gift continued, care became nourishment, and nourishment became connection.
Perhaps this is how generosity works. It doesn't end when something is given. It keeps moving from one person to another, multiplying endlessly.
It also made me wonder how differently we might relate not only to the food we eat but to everything we use, if we remembered that it is, ultimately, a gift of the earth.
The earth gives endlessly. Maybe our role is simply to receive with gratitude, care for what we've been given, and pass that care on.
Thank you so much Daniel Brenner for a wonderful gift and a much needed reminder to be grateful to the earth.
