Five Days of Learning, Growth, and Commitment: Concluding the GBV Case Management Training
The five-day GBV Case Management and Referral Pathways Training came to a successful close on 21 June 2026 at the Capitol Hotel in Buea, marking the end of an intensive and enriching capacity-building experience for participants drawn from various organizations working to support survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Throughout the training, participants strengthened their knowledge and practical skills in survivor-centered case management, referral mechanisms, communication techniques, trauma-informed approaches, ethical principles, and effective service provision. The sessions were highly interactive, combining presentations, group discussions, role plays, case studies, and practical exercises that encouraged active participation and peer learning.
The final day focused on several critical and often overlooked aspects of case management. Participants explored effective approaches to supporting male survivors of sexual violence, highlighting the unique challenges they face in seeking help due to stigma, harmful gender norms, and limited awareness of available services. Discussions also addressed case management responses for adolescent girls, with particular attention to child and early marriage, its impact on the well-being and rights of girls, and the role of case workers in providing appropriate support and referrals. Additionally, participants examined the importance of staff care and self-care, recognizing that frontline workers must prioritize their own well-being in order to provide quality support to survivors. Practical strategies for preventing burnout, managing stress, and promoting resilience among service providers were shared.
The training concluded with reflections on key lessons learned, reaffirming the commitment of participants to apply the knowledge and skills gained in their daily work. The experience not only strengthened technical capacities but also fostered collaboration, networking, and a renewed dedication to delivering survivor-centered services. Hadassah Foundation was honored to be part of this impactful learning journey and remains committed to enhancing the quality of GBV response and support services within communities.
Hadassah Foundation sincerely thanks UNFPA Cameroon, Women in Action Against Gender-Based Violence (WACameroon), and TeenAlive Cameroon for organizing this impactful training. We appreciate the opportunity to strengthen our capacity in GBV case management and remain committed to applying the knowledge gained to better serve survivors and communities.
