Early in my career, I made a habit of giving my absolute best to even the smallest tasks and delivering them quickly.

I only realized much later how many doors that habit opened for me through word-of-mouth recommendations.

It’s so easy to treat small tasks or volunteer roles like they don’t matter because we can’t immediately see the payoff, but people always notice when you take pride in what you do.

It’s important to remember that how you handle the minor assignments is usually how people assume you’ll handle the big ones.

So treat everything with care, because your effort today is literally building the reputation that will speak for you tomorrow.

I was honored to join an incredible panel of experts at the Belima Experience by MTF AGENCY event centered on maternity, post-partum care, responsible parenting, and child protection.

During the discussion, I emphasized the vital role midwives play throughout every stage of a woman’s reproductive life cycle, while also reminding parents that they are their children's protective GPS.
Other Panelists also brought crucial perspectives to light. The Minister of Women Empowerment and the Protection of the Family’s Representative firmly declared that child labor is unacceptable.

A personal highlight was finally meeting Alexandra, Cameroon’s first doula, in person after so many online exchanges; her contributions underscored that pregnancy and childbirth can feel like warfare, demanding a strong, compassionate support network.

Alongside insights from Nancy Ongolo and Marlyse Ndoumbe, we urged mothers never to attempt playing ‘Wonder Woman’ (especially during high-risk pregnancies) and called on couples to navigate post-partum expectations together through honest dialogue, knowing that the environment in which a child is brought into the world profoundly impacts their entire future.

Honored to have been invited by the Consul General of France to celebrate the French National Day in Douala! 🇫🇷

Having visited France twice, it easily captured my heart as one of my favorite countries; especially Paris, a city I absolutely love.

But yesterday’s soirée brought something special to the table.

Seeing Cameroonian culture celebrated so vibrantly and front-of-mind was a great sight of just how intertwined both nations are.

In global health and social entrepreneurship, we talk a lot about ‘interconnectedness,’ but seeing it celebrated culturally proved that our best, most impactful ideas are born from mutual exchange, not isolation.

Getting to meet, connect with new people and especially share this inspiring evening with my husband made a wonderful night even more exceptional. 🥂🇨🇲

Having a great idea is only 5% of the job.
The other 95% is Ex*****on.

And let me tell you, ex*****on will test your patience.

It’s easy to talk about making an impact, but it’s a lot harder to handle the unglamorous admin, fix operational bottlenecks, and keep a team motivated week after week. I learnt very quickly that being a founder is truly not by mouth. It takes real grit.

Which brings me to this picture. I stood intentionally for this photo. At least for once! 😂

I looked at the photographer and said, ‘Oga photographer, please get this exact shot.’ And he did! 📸✨

This was taken on the occasion of For Mom and Baby Foundation office (HQ) opening.

Time passes by so fast in this line of work.
When you are constantly building, managing, and looking ahead, it is so easy to get caught up in the momentum of the next task that you completely forget to stop and actually feel the moment you are in.

If you are in the thick of building, take a second to touch ground and breathe. Let yourself actually feel the process which will eventually lead to the win.

A young student midwife ran up to me during a career orientation visit to my alma mater.

She shared that her parents weren't convinced about the future of the Midwifery profession until she showed them my social media profiles. After doing their own research (which meant ‘googling’ me up for days😅), they finally agreed to let her pursue her dream.

This exact scenario has happened to me more than three times now, and every single time, it moves me deeply.

It is exactly why I never skip a moment to share my journey transparently.

I certainly don’t know everything, but one thing I will never do is gatekeep.

Over 70 - 80% of professionals report that hearing or reading about others' career paths directly influences their own career decisions, expands their professional aspirations, or provides critical validation when navigating unconventional routes.

I was recently featured by Global Health Otherwise where I share my unfiltered story, including what it was really like to launch a non-profit at just 22 years old.

A huge thank you to Dr. Luchuo Engelbert Bain for reaching out and bringing this to life. It is beautifully written.

Over the past weeks, I’ve closely guided and mentored these 9 midwives, and seeing them complete the program fills my heart with so much joy.

This brings us to a major milestone of 70 midwives across 13 countries (4 continents) directly impacted through 6 cohorts of the Midwifery Mentorship Program since inception in 2024.

This work is so much bigger than me.
The reality is that many midwives successfully finish midwifery school but face great frustration or leave the profession entirely due to a severe lack of career guidance and poor orientation; a gap that often starts during their student days.

It breaks my heart because while bright talents step away, women are still giving birth and in desperate need of expert care, with lives tragically lost to gaps in clinical competency. I started this program to be the guide I desperately needed but couldn't find early in my career, and it remains one of the most humbling privileges of my life- to mentor midwives from all walks of life, including those older than me - learning just as much from them in return.

Our e-graduation ceremony this week was pure magic, with Praise Dahunsi and Bartholomew K. Kamlewe delivering powerful keynotes to keep everyone inspired.

I am so proud of this cohort and excited for the massive ripple effect they will have on the maternal and child health ecosystem.

I’ll be right here cheering them on through every high and low—and if you're ready to join our next cohort, prepare for enrollment in March 2027!

I am deeply honored to have stood before over 3,000 global colleagues at the closing ceremony of the 34th ICM Triennial Congress in Lisbon, to receive the prestigious BONNIE PEDERSON INTERNATIONAL MIDWIFE AWARD alongside 3 remarkable Midwives from Kenya (Prof Doreen kainyu), Nepal (Nani Kaway), and Zambia (Priscilla Mwanza).

This recognition, named after an excellent visionary who championed grassroots midwifery leadership matters because it underscores that true impact doesn't come from claiming a title, but from taking consistent, quiet action long before anyone notices.

8 years ago When I first began visibly sharing my professional journey as a student Midwife then and later pushing boundaries with For Mom and Baby Foundation, I had no idea what global awards were about; I was simply frustrated with the status quo and wanted to show younger midwives what our profession can look like when we dare to do things differently.

As Austin Kleon once said, ‘Let go of the thing that you're trying to be, and focus on the actual work you need to be doing.’

A mighty big thank you to Nester Moyo, Dr. Ngwashi Christabel, and Frances Ganges for believing in me, to my dedicated team, and to my husband —who supports me like an army of 10,000. Thank you. Thank you International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), The Midwife Foundation. And Thank you God!

The journey continues as we carry Bonnie’s legacy forward, because the world needs one million more midwives...

I believe sharing my takeaways from conferences create a ripple effect. Even if it impacts just one person, it can change a whole community- which is why I'm dedicated to bringing these bite-sized lessons/experiences to those who couldn't attend the 34th ICM Triennial Congress this week.

Day 4 for me was all about diving into ground-breaking maternal health innovations from GynZone: We Share Women's Care, febromed , and Medela.

A major highlight was exploring oasicare’s perineal protector piece (ASISU), an inspiring solution designed to tackle a staggering reality: the fact that 80–90% of women experience perineal tears during childbirth.

Between absorbing these brilliant advancements and unexpectedly stepping into the role of a professional photographer to help a colleague capture the perfect moment, today beautifully blended cutting-edge midwifery with global community connection.

The future of care is evolving rapidly, and I can't wait to bring these insights & some samples back home.

Day 3 of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) 34th Triennial Congress dropped a fascinating truth bomb ~ Scientists now consider pregnancy to be the most ‘plastic’ period of women’s lives (extreme changes).

Attending the breakfast symposium on how becoming a mother completely reshapes the brain by Van Leer Foundation Susana Carmona really drove home the fact that maternal mental health matters for two generations & parenting begins before birth.

If a mother experiences anxiety or depression during pregnancy, it significantly increases the chances of neurodevelopmental disorders in her child.

I was also honored to be invited to add my voice to the ICM push campaign podcast recording on women-centered care alongside Sheena Byrom OBE Sensitive Midwifery.

The day was also packed with eye-opening sessions on human milk donation and banking across countries like Belgium and Hong Kong, alongside powerful stories from midwives working on the frontlines of humanitarian and climate crises, reinforcing why they must be integrated into first-response teams.

It left me reflecting on the fact that while some of us have seats at the table, we need to be much more vocal and daring with our impact; a perfect takeaway I carried into a beautiful networking dinner to close out the day!

Day 2 at the 34th ICM Triennial Congress cut straight to the heart of what it means to build resilient health systems.

We must move beyond simple access to true equity, dismantle the overmedicalization of birth, and confront how climate change from extreme heat to flooding directly threatens maternal health.

From plenary insights to standard-setting discussions at the Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) partner session, the overarching fact was clearly that midwives save lives, but we cannot function in isolation or within systems that fail to protect us.

We need a seat at every decision-making table, sustainable philanthropic partnerships that move away from silos, and leadership that sparks from the ground up, not just ministerial levels.

I crowned this impactful day by presenting our abstract for the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) Midwife Leaders Executive Sponsorship Programme—a proud moment to stand as both a contributor and a sponsor alongside colleagues who are fiercely rewriting the script for maternal health worldwide!
