There is a sentence nobody wants to hear when they are ill, and yet it is the one that respects you most: "no, this treatment would not help you."
Some specialised care is not available in Cameroon. Reliable options do exist abroad, but not all of them are reliable, and a family's distress is easy to sell to. That is why we do not refer people at random.
We work with an Indian partner, Miles To Go, whom we know. We have no financial interest in this process at any stage: no commission, no fee, nothing. I have had the opportunity to support someone close to me through this kind of journey, and I have followed Cameroonian patients who went through it.
What justifies this recommendation, and nothing else: they tell the truth, including when it is hard to hear. When a treatment no longer makes sense, they say so instead of keeping alive a hope that costs a great deal — in money, in time, and in exhaustion for a family already worn down.
If this concerns you or someone close to you: come and talk about it during a consultation, or write to us privately. A post is not a medical opinion. It opens a door, that's all.
