Could hiding sweets from children actually make them want more? ...

Could hiding sweets from children actually make them want more? A surprising finding from research suggests that restricting children’s access to certain foods may have the opposite effect.

Studies have found that when foods are heavily restricted, children may:
🔹 Consume larger quantities of those foods when they become available
🔹 Show increased cravings, requests, protests and tantrums
🔹 Have greater difficulty responding to hunger and fullness cues
🔹 Potentially develop less healthy eating patterns over time

The goal isn’t necessarily to eliminate sweets or other less nutritious foods completely. Instead, research points toward helping children develop a balanced relationship with food, one guided by understanding, healthy boundaries and self-regulation rather than strict restriction.

Could your food choices be affecting your mood?

We often talk about ultra-processed foods in relation to obesity, diabetes, and heart health. But what about mental health?

Research involving 31,712 participants over more than 14 years found an association between higher consumption of ultra-processed foods and an increased risk of depression.

That raises an important question:

Are we paying enough attention to the connection between what we eat and how we feel?

The science is still evolving, but one thing is clear: nutrition and mental health deserve to be discussed together.
