Today I’m planting Valerian, a beautiful herb that I use for something very special.

While the leaves are lovely, it’s the roots that I harvest. Valerian root is the part of the plant I use to create our Overnight Recovery, carefully extracting the compounds that have made this herb so valued for generations.

That’s one of the things I love most about growing my own medicinal plants. I know exactly where they come from, how they’re cared for, and when they’re ready to become part of a Sacred Farm remedy.

I have several Guanacaste trees on the farm, and they’re some of my favorite trees. They’re impressive to look at, but they’re also an important part of this landscape.

Their massive canopies provide shade for wildlife, and countless other plants, creating little ecosystems of their own. I love that they remind us to slow down.

The Guanacaste is Costa Rica’s national tree. These giants take decades to grow, and once they’re gone, they can’t simply be replaced. That’s why preserving the mature trees we already have, and planting more native species for the future, is so important. Every time I walk the farm, I’m grateful for these beautiful giants. I hope they’ll be here for generations to come.

I love visiting El Arca in Heredia. I find so many medicinal plants there that I can’t get anywhere else! They also have a beautiful hotel and a farm-to-table restaurant, so it always feels like a mini vacation for me.

I came home with Valerian, one of my favorite medicinal plants and a key ingredient in our Overnight Recovery formula. I love growing the herbs I work with, it keeps me connected to every part of the process, from the plant itself to the remedies we create.
