For years, whey protein has been one of the most affordable and effective sources of high-quality protein available.
Since the COVID-19 crisis, prices have been increasing steadily, until an unprecedented and very quick surge in the past 5 months, where whey protein prices have more than doubled globally.
Unlike previous fluctuations, this is not simply a matter of temporary demand. The industry is facing a genuine shortage of whey processing capacity, while demand continues to grow across sports nutrition, food manufacturing, and medical nutrition sectors.
The result is simple: whey protein products around the world are becoming more expensive.
At Athlete Fuel, we have absorbed every increase so far. Unfortunately, this will not be possible indefinitely.
Once our current stock is depleted, future production runs will be manufactured using significantly more expensive raw materials, making a substantial price increase unavoidable.
We wanted to be transparent with our community and explain what is happening behind the scenes, rather than simply changing prices without context.
If you'd like to understand what is driving the current whey shortage and why the situation is unlikely to improve in the short term, we've published a detailed article on the subject.
