🩸 Blood clotting is a carefully balanced process. The body needs to form clots when necessary, but this process also has to remain controlled and coordinated.

One of the key proteins involved in this mechanism is fibrinogen.

Fibrinogen is a plasma protein produced by the liver. During the clotting process, fibrinogen is converted into fibrin, which forms a network that helps stabilise the blood clot. This fibrin network is an essential part of normal hemostasis.

Laboratory measurement of fibrinogen provides information about the coagulation system and may be requested as part of a broader clotting assessment.

Unlike a routine blood count, fibrinogen testing focuses specifically on clotting-related activity. It is not usually interpreted alone, but together with other coagulation and biochemical markers.

πŸ§ͺ Fibrinogen testing may support the evaluation of:

➀ Coagulation function and clot formation.
➀ Hemostatic balance.
➀ Selected bleeding-related investigations.
➀ Selected thrombosis-related investigations.
➀ Inflammatory activity, as fibrinogen may behave as an acute-phase protein.
➀ Liver-related assessment, since fibrinogen is produced by the liver.

A fibrinogen result can be increased or decreased for different reasons. For example, higher levels may be seen in inflammatory states, while lower levels may be relevant in certain coagulation or liver-related contexts. The laboratory meaning depends on the full testing profile.

Fibrinogen is often evaluated together with tests such as PT, INR, APTT, platelet count, D-dimer and liver function markers, depending on the reason for testing.

πŸ’‘ This is why fibrinogen is a useful marker: it connects clot formation, hemostatic balance, inflammation and liver-related protein production within a broader laboratory assessment.

πŸ”¬ At MediCheck Clinical Laboratory, fibrinogen testing is performed with precision and consistency, supporting reliable laboratory evaluation of coagulation function.

🧬 The immune system does not rely on one single marker. It uses different types of antibodies to recognise, respond to and remember immune challenges.

Immunoglobulins, also known as antibodies, are proteins produced by the immune system. Their measurement in the laboratory can provide useful information about different aspects of immune activity.

The most commonly assessed immunoglobulins include IgG, IgA and IgM.

IgG is the most abundant immunoglobulin in the blood. It is usually associated with long-term immune response and immune memory. IgG levels may provide information about previous immune exposure or ongoing immune activity, depending on the full clinical and laboratory context.

IgA is mainly found in mucosal areas and body secretions, including the respiratory and gastrointestinal tract. It plays an important role in local immune protection at body surfaces that are exposed to the external environment.

IgM is often linked with the early immune response. It is usually one of the first antibodies produced when the immune system responds to a new antigen or immune stimulus.

πŸ” Why immunoglobulin testing may be requested

➀ To support the laboratory evaluation of immune system activity.
➀ To investigate abnormal antibody levels.
➀ To contribute to the assessment of recurrent or selected infection-related concerns.
➀ To support the evaluation of inflammatory or autoimmune activity, when requested.
➀ To provide additional information in broader immunology testing.

Immunoglobulin results are not interpreted as isolated values. A high or low result may have different meaning depending on which immunoglobulin is affected, the person’s history, symptoms and other laboratory findings.

For this reason, IgG, IgA and IgM are usually assessed together with additional markers, such as complete blood count, inflammatory markers, specific antibodies or other immunology tests, depending on the clinical request.

πŸ’‘ Laboratory evaluation of immunoglobulins helps provide a more detailed view of immune system activity, but the results always need to be interpreted within the broader clinical picture.

πŸ”¬ At MediCheck Clinical Laboratory, immunoglobulin testing is performed with accuracy and consistency, supporting reliable laboratory evaluation of immune system markers.

29/05/2026

πŸ”¬ Total Protein is a laboratory measurement that evaluates the overall amount of proteins circulating in the blood, mainly albumin and globulins.

Proteins are essential for many functions of the body. They contribute to fluid balance, immune activity, transport of substances in the blood and overall metabolic function.

In laboratory testing, Total Protein is commonly included in biochemical profiles and may provide useful information when assessed together with other markers.

What Total Protein can help reflect

β€’ General protein status in the blood.
β€’ Albumin and globulin-related balance.
β€’ Nutritional and metabolic status.
β€’ Liver-related protein production.
β€’ Kidney-related protein loss, depending on the full laboratory profile.
β€’ Immune-related changes when globulin levels are affected.

🧬 Total Protein is usually interpreted together with markers such as albumin, liver enzymes, kidney function tests, inflammatory markers and other biochemical results, depending on the clinical request.

A Total Protein result may be higher or lower than expected for different reasons. This is why it should not be viewed alone, but as part of a broader biochemical evaluation.

πŸ’‘ When assessed with related laboratory markers, Total Protein can help provide a clearer picture of the body’s biochemical and metabolic status.

πŸ”¬ At MediCheck Clinical Laboratory, Total Protein testing is performed with precision and consistency, supporting reliable biochemical assessment.

28/05/2026

πŸ§ͺ Phosphorus is an essential mineral that plays an important role in several functions of the body, especially in bone health, energy production and cellular activity.

Together with calcium, vitamin D and parathyroid hormone, phosphorus contributes to the regulation of mineral balance and supports normal bone metabolism.

Why phosphorus is important in laboratory evaluation

➀ It contributes to the formation and maintenance of bones and teeth.
➀ It supports energy production through ATP, the body’s main energy molecule.
➀ It plays a role in cell function, growth and repair.
➀ It helps maintain acid-base balance in the body.
➀ It is closely linked with kidney function and mineral regulation.

πŸ” Phosphorus levels are often evaluated together with other laboratory markers such as calcium, PTH, vitamin D, creatinine and kidney function tests, depending on the clinical request.

Because phosphorus balance is influenced by several body systems, its interpretation should not be based on one value alone. A result outside the expected range may need to be assessed together with related biochemical markers.

πŸ”¬ At MediCheck Clinical Laboratory, phosphorus testing is performed with accuracy and consistency, supporting reliable laboratory assessment of mineral balance and metabolic function.

22/05/2026

πŸ§ͺ PTH, or Parathyroid Hormone, is one of the key hormones involved in maintaining calcium balance in the body.

βš–οΈ It is produced by the parathyroid glands, small glands located in the neck, and helps regulate the levels of calcium and phosphorus in the blood.

🦴 Because of this, PTH is closely connected with bone metabolism, mineral balance, vitamin D activity and kidney function.

πŸ“Š When calcium levels are higher or lower than expected, PTH testing can provide useful laboratory information about how the body is responding.

What can PTH testing help evaluate?

β€’ Parathyroid gland activity.
β€’ Calcium and phosphorus balance.
β€’ Mineral metabolism.
β€’ Bone-related biochemical activity.
β€’ Vitamin D-related assessments.
β€’ Kidney function-related evaluations, when requested.

πŸ” PTH is usually interpreted together with other laboratory markers such as calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D, creatinine and kidney function tests, depending on the clinical request.

πŸ’‘ This combination helps provide a clearer picture of whether changes in calcium or mineral balance may be related to parathyroid activity, vitamin D status, renal function or bone metabolism.

🧬 A PTH result can be high, low or within range, but its meaning depends on the values of the other related markers. For example, the interpretation of PTH may differ depending on whether calcium is high, low or normal.

πŸ”¬ For this reason, PTH testing supports a broader laboratory evaluation rather than acting as a standalone conclusion.

At MediCheck Clinical Laboratory, PTH testing is performed with accuracy and consistency, supporting reliable laboratory assessment of calcium and mineral balance.

22/05/2026

πŸ”¬ Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), is an enzyme measured through a blood test and commonly included in biochemical or liver function profiles.

It is found in several tissues, with important laboratory relevance mainly to the liver, bile ducts and bones. This is why ALP can provide useful information in more than one area of evaluation.

Unlike markers that are linked mainly to one organ system, ALP needs to be interpreted within the full laboratory profile and clinical context.

ALP may support the evaluation of:

β€’ Liver and bile duct activity
β€’ Bone metabolism and bone turnover
β€’ Changes within a biochemical profile
β€’ Results that fall outside the expected range
β€’ Follow-up together with related laboratory markers

When ALP is assessed in a liver-related profile, it is often reviewed together with markers such as GGT, ALT, AST and bilirubin. These help provide a clearer laboratory picture of liver and bile duct activity.

When the focus is bone metabolism, ALP may be considered together with calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D and PTH, depending on the clinical request.

πŸ’‘ A single ALP result cannot show the full picture on its own. The same value may have different meaning depending on the rest of the blood test results and the reason for testing.

πŸ”¬ At MediCheck Clinical Laboratory, ALP testing is performed with precision and consistency, supporting reliable biochemical evaluation of liver, bile duct and bone-related metabolism.

🧬 C Peptide and metabolic evaluation

C Peptide is released into the bloodstream when the pancreas produces insulin. For this reason, it is used as a laboratory marker that reflects the body’s own, or endogenous, insulin production.

In metabolic assessment, C Peptide can provide valuable information beyond a single glucose value. It helps evaluate how actively the pancreas is producing insulin and can support a more complete picture of glucose metabolism.

Why C Peptide may be requested:

β€’ To assess endogenous insulin production.
β€’ To support the evaluation of pancreatic beta-cell function.
β€’ To contribute to metabolic assessment alongside glucose, insulin and HbA1c.
β€’ To provide additional laboratory information in diabetes-related investigations or cases of abnormal glucose regulation.

🩸 C Peptide is measured through a blood sample. Depending on the clinical request, it may be assessed fasting or alongside other metabolic markers.

Unlike insulin measurement alone, C Peptide is not affected in the same way by injected insulin, which makes it useful in specific laboratory evaluations of insulin production.

πŸ”¬ At MediCheck Clinical Laboratory, C Peptide testing is performed with precision and consistency, supporting accurate laboratory assessment of metabolic function.

πŸ§ͺ Celiac Antibodies Panel

When the body reacts abnormally to gluten, the immune system may produce specific antibodies. The Celiac Antibodies Panel is a laboratory test used to support the evaluation of this gluten-related immune response.

This panel may include markers such as tTG-IgA, tTG-IgG, DGP-IgA, DGP-IgG and Total IgA, depending on the requested laboratory assessment.

πŸ” These markers can provide useful information when investigating possible celiac disease, gluten-related immune activity, nutrient absorption issues or unexplained digestive concerns.

🩸 The test is performed through a blood sample and is usually interpreted alongside medical history, symptoms and clinical evaluation. It is important that results are not viewed in isolation, as antibody levels form part of a broader diagnostic picture.

πŸ’‘ Total IgA is often included because IgA deficiency can affect the interpretation of certain celiac antibody results.

At MediCheck Clinical Laboratory, Celiac Antibodies Panel testing is performed with accuracy and consistency, supporting reliable laboratory evaluation for gluten-related immune assessment.

Ureaplasma is a microorganism that belongs to the category of mycoplasmas. Ureaplasma is often found in the urinary or ge***al, uroge***al, system of sexually active individuals.

It can affect both men and women and may not cause symptoms. U. Parvum is not considered pathogenic for the body, unlike U. Urealyticum, which is considered potentially pathogenic and can affect the urethra.

In addition to urethritis, Ureaplasma may cause inflammation of the epididymis, known as epididymitis, which can lead to fertility problems.

What symptoms can Ureaplasma cause

As mentioned above, Ureaplasma does not cause symptoms on its own. The only indication of a Ureaplasma related condition may appear in the form of urethritis or epididymitis.

Symptoms that may appear in urethritis caused by Ureaplasma include

πŸ”Ή Burning or pain during urination.
πŸ”Ή Frequent urination.
πŸ”Ή Urgent need to urinate.
πŸ”Ή Discharge from the urethra.
πŸ”Ή Discomfort or itching inside the urethra.

Inflammation of the epididymis may cause the following symptoms

πŸ”Ή Testicular pain.
πŸ”Ή Testicular swelling.
πŸ”Ή Blood in semen.
πŸ”Ή Fever.
πŸ”Ή If left untreated, it may cause infertility.

Other conditions that may be associated with Ureaplasma include

πŸ”Ή Pelvic inflammatory disease, which may present with pelvic pain, abnormal vaginal discharge and pain during sexual in*******se.
πŸ”Ή Cervicitis, inflammation of the cervix, which may cause pain during sexual in*******se and suspicious vaginal discharge.
πŸ”Ή Prostatitis, which may present with pelvic pain, urgent need to urinate and pain during ej*******on.

How is Ureaplasma transmitted

The most common way Ureaplasma is transmitted is through sexual contact. For this reason, Ureaplasma may be considered a sexually transmitted infection, STI.

Other routes of transmission include vertical transmission, from mother to baby during childbirth. It is also important to mention that Ureaplasma may be part of the normal flora in some women, meaning it can be present in the body without an external cause.

Ureaplasma can affect individuals regardless of gender, age or number of partners.

How is it diagnosed

A sample for Ureaplasma testing may be collected from

πŸ”Ή The urethra, using a special swab, which is also the preferred method.
πŸ”Ή Urine.
πŸ”Ή Semen.
πŸ”Ή Vaginal or prostatic fluid.

πŸ”¬ At MediCheck Clinical Laboratory, we perform reliable microbiological testing for Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma, supporting accurate detection and responsible laboratory evaluation.
