🔴 Chickenpox spreads easily—but knowing the signs and getting the right advice can help protect your family.
Chickenpox (varicella) is a common viral infection that usually causes a fever followed by an itchy, blister-like rash. While most children recover without problems, some people are at higher risk of complications, including babies, adults, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.
Common symptoms include:
• Fever and tiredness
• An itchy rash that develops into fluid-filled blisters
• Loss of appetite
• Headache
• New spots appearing over several days
If your child has chickenpox:
🏠 Keep them at home until all the blisters have crusted over.
💧 Encourage plenty of fluids and rest.
🧴 Calamine lotion or other soothing treatments may help relieve itching.
✂️ Keep fingernails short to reduce scratching and lower the risk of skin infection.
Seek medical advice promptly if:
• Your child has difficulty breathing.
• They develop a persistent high fever or become unusually drowsy.
• The rash becomes very red, swollen, painful, or starts oozing pus.
• The person with chickenpox is pregnant, an adult, a newborn, or has a weakened immune system.
At Harbour Medical, our experienced doctors can assess chickenpox, advise on symptom relief, identify any complications early, and provide appropriate treatment when needed.
