a sorry or a blessing?

ENDOMETRIOSIS PATIENT’S STORY
One of the many true stories

A sorry or a blessing?

“Shortly after my endometriosis diagnosis, a breakup followed — from a relationship that had lasted several years. My partner at the time, reading about the condition, was frightened by its possible effects on fertility. At the same time, having seen me suffer regularly from intense pain, he felt he couldn’t handle this new reality. So, a month after the diagnosis, our relationship came to an end. The relationship ended, and life with the endometriosis began. A life that may have its difficulties, but one that taught me strength and self-respect. And believe me, today I can say with certainty that I’d rather live with endometriosis than inside a relationship like that”.

Ergonomics at work is crucial. Whatever your profession, pay attention to your body’s ergonomics—how you sit, stand, position your legs, arms, neck, and spine. If needed, seek guidance from a specialist.

Good ergonomics not only reduces pain and prevents injury, but is also one of the most underrated investments in healthy aging.

As a laparoscopic surgeon, after countless hours in the operating theatre (and hopefully many more to come), I gradually started experiencing significant body pain. Over the years, I had unconsciously adopted positions that placed unnecessary strain on my body. I tried several approaches without success.

Everything changed when I met an exceptional physiotherapist who asked to observe me while I was operating. By analysing my posture and movements in real time, he identified subtle but important compensatory patterns and recommended targeted corrections. The improvement has already been remarkable, and I have now adapted the way I position my body during surgery.

I cannot emphasise this enough: whatever your profession, look after your body while you work. Prevention is always better than treatment, and good ergonomics is an investment not only in a pain-free career but also in your long-term health and longevity.

The photo shows my physiotherapist observing me during surgery, allowing him to provide real-time guidance that is helping me eliminate pain and, more importantly, invest in my future health.
