Fasting is the future of nutrition.🌸

Here’s a wild thought: the human body survives starvation by eating parts of itself… and that strange idea earned a Japanese scientist the Nobel Prize. 👨🏻‍🔬

It starts with Yoshinori Ohsumi, a quiet researcher studying yeast when no one else cared. But he noticed something odd — when cells ran out of nutrients, they didn’t just shut down. They reorganized. They recycled. They cleaned themselves from the inside out. 🤯

That process has a name: autophagy. 🦠

Halfway through his work, he realized this wasn’t just some yeast trick. Humans do it too. Our cells break down damaged parts, reuse the good pieces, and stay alive under pressure. What began as a tiny observation suddenly explained aging, immunity, brain health — even how our bodies fight disease. 🔬

And here’s the twist: this discovery wasn’t made in a giant flashy lab. It came from patience, curiosity, and a man willing to stare at something everyone else ignored.
It’s a reminder, friends — sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come from looking closer at the things nobody thinks matter. 🏅

Can we slow down ageing naturally?

One of the goals of the NutrIAge study is to find out if combining intermittent fasting with low glycemic index foods can help the body slow down biological ageing.

During fasting, the body reduces oxidative stress and activates cellular regeneration, helping your cells repair and stay healthy for longer.

We’ll check your biological age every 6 weeks over 6 months to see how your body responds to this lifestyle approach.

Join us on this journey to discover how science and nutrition can work together for healthy ageing! 🌿

Have you ever forgotten where you put your keys or what you wanted to say? 😅

What if when you eat could help your brain remember things better?

Here’s the story 👇

Our brain has a “helper” called BDNF. You can think of it like plant food for your brain — it helps your brain cells grow and talk to each other so you can learn and remember new things.

But there’s another helper called oestrogen (a hormone) that helps BDNF do its job. When oestrogen goes down, BDNF also goes down. That makes it harder for the brain to remember things.

Now here’s the cool part 🌟

Scientists are finding that intermittent fasting — that means eating only during certain hours of the day — can help the brain work better!

When you fast (or give your body a break from food):

🍽️ Your brain uses energy better
🧹 It cleans out old, damaged cells
🌱 It grows new connections between brain cells
😊 It makes more “happy” chemicals like serotonin
💪 It even helps lower stress hormones that can hurt brain cells

So, by eating in a smaller time window — for example, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. — you might actually help your brain remember more and feel happier!

Pretty amazing, right?

We’re doing a study to learn more about how intermittent fasting can help the brain — especially with memory and mood.

👩‍🔬 The NutriAge Study is a randomised controlled trial evaluating the effects of a Time-Restricted Eating – Low-Glycaemic-Index (TRE-LGI) diet.

Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups:

1️⃣ Intervention Group: Follows a 16:8 fasting schedule (all meals within an 8-hour window) and a low-glycaemic, Mediterranean-style diet.
2️⃣ Control Group: Continues usual eating habits without dietary changes.

📱 Participants will track their meals and eating windows using the Nutrium digital platform, receiving personalized nutritionist feedback and support throughout the study.

✅ A total of 72 women (36 per group) will be enrolled. Eligible participants will complete an online screening and provide informed consent before joining.

Did you know?

⏰Intermittent fasting can reduce body weight by 3–9% and body fat, with benefits observed in studies lasting 3 to 24 weeks.

At the same time, 50–90% of postmenopausal women experience increased belly fat, as lower oestrogen levels lead to metabolic and hormonal changes.

💡 The NutriAge Study at the University of Nicosia is exploring how meal timing and nutrition can improve metabolism, memory, and healthy ageing in women aged 45–65.

✨ Join our FREE 3-month intermittent fasting program starting January 2026, including:
✅ Personalized diet plan
✅ Free blood and biological age tests
✅ Free body and memory assessments

🧠 Why is it harder to focus after menopause?

You’re not alone — about 70% of women notice problems with memory, focus, or concentration during menopause.

That’s because oestrogen levels drop, and oestrogen helps keep the brain active, balanced, and protected.

At the NutriAge Study, we’re testing if intermittent fasting can help the brain use energy better, reduce inflammation, and improve mental clarity.
