The Perfect Fifth
Sound, resonance and the sphenoidâpituitary space
The "perfect" in Perfect Fifth refers to the harmonious sound which unifies opposites. The Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, referred to the Perfect Fifth as âthe sound of universal harmony between the forces of Yin and Yangâ.
In India, the Perfect Fifth is believed to create a sound through which Shiva, the masculine principle, calls Shakti, the feminine principle, to the dance of life.
The Alchemists called the Perfect Fifth âCrux Ansataâ and considered it to be a transition point where matter crossed over into spirit.
The "crux ansata" is also called the "anak" by the Egyptians who thought of it as a still point where the earth ends and our ascension into spirit begins.
When two tuning forks sound to create The Perfect Fifth, it is the interval of ideal nervous system tuning. The Perfect Fifth brings all parts of our self into a unified harmony. The interval of a perfect fifth causes the sphenoid bone to vibrate and move in harmonic patterns. The sphenoid bone looks like a butterfly with its greater and lesser wings and sits deep within the cranial structure. It contains the sella turcica, a small saddle-shaped space that houses the pituitary gland.
When the vibrations of the Perfect Fifth stimulate sphenoid movements, the diaphragm sella resonates in harmony. Simultaneously, the pituitary gland releases endogenous op**tes which are the precursors to the release of nitric oxide. The nitric oxide release catalyzes the body to heal, detoxify, and, in general, take care of itself. This also allows our conscious awareness to move into higher states.
Sound and gentle vibration are received through hearing, touch, bone conduction, and the nervous system. This can offer a quiet, embodied invitation to pause, listen, breathe, and notice what settles.
Some people describe the experience as a sense of spaciousness, clarity, grounding, or gentle inner organisation.
Dr John Beaulieu tells us the benefits of this interval are:
đ€It lifts depression; joint mobility;
đ€balances earth with spirit;
đ€directly stimulates nitric oxide release;
đ€antibacterial, antiviral, and immune enhancement;
đ€balances heart; balances pituitary gland and releases op**te and canniboid receptor sites in the third ventricle of the brain;
đ€balances sphenoid bone;
đ€balances sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.
Vicky O'Donoghue from Mindful Living and I create a beautiful, mindful listening experience in our Alchemy of Sound workshops, where participants are given a set of body tuners to play, creating a perfect fifth âsymphonyâ while they are guided by Vicky in a mindful walking meditation.
On a 1;1 basis, I offer Biofield Repatterning & Body Tuning using The Perfect Fifth Interval at my studio in Steni. âŹ45
