Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver and may result from different causes, including viral infections, alcohol, medications, toxins, autoimmune conditions, or metabolic disease. Viral hepatitis is one of the most important forms, as it may progress to chronic liver disease without obvious symptoms for a long period of time.

The liver plays a central role in metabolism, detoxification, protein production, and many essential body functions. When chronic inflammation is present, it may gradually lead to fibrosis, cirrhosis, or even liver cancer, particularly in chronic hepatitis B or C.

🩺 Possible symptoms of hepatitis include:
• fatigue and weakness
• nausea or reduced appetite
• pain or discomfort in the upper right abdomen
• dark urine or pale stools
• jaundice, meaning yellowing of the skin or eyes

Prevention and early diagnosis are essential. Vaccination against hepatitis A and B, screening for people at increased risk, safe medication use, and avoiding the sharing of sharp personal items are important protective measures.

📌 World Hepatitis Day reminds us that liver health should not be taken for granted. Awareness, testing, and proper medical guidance can prevent serious complications.

During summer, high temperatures promote the growth of microorganisms in food, increasing the risk of food poisoning. Dairy products, eggs, meat, seafood, ready-to-eat meals, and foods left outside the refrigerator for long periods are particularly vulnerable.

Food poisoning usually presents with gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or fever. In most cases it is self-limiting, but it may become more serious in children, older adults, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.

🩺 Practical prevention measures:
• keep perishable foods refrigerated or in a cooler
• wash hands carefully before preparing or eating food
• cook meat, poultry, and eggs thoroughly
• avoid leaving food exposed to heat
• drink safe, clean water

⚠️ Medical assessment is needed if there is persistent high fever, blood in the stool, signs of dehydration, severe weakness, or symptoms lasting more than 24–48 hours.

📌 Proper food storage, hand hygiene, and safe food preparation are the most important preventive measures. Summer food can be enjoyed safely when simple but essential hygiene rules are followed.

As World Drowning Prevention Day approaches, it is important to remember that drowning is a serious and often sudden event that can occur within seconds, frequently without loud noise or obvious warning signs. Prevention is essential, especially during the summer months, when exposure to the sea, swimming pools, and other water environments increases significantly.

Drowning does not affect only children. It can happen at any age, particularly when fatigue, alcohol consumption, underlying medical conditions, lack of supervision, or overestimation of swimming ability are involved.

🛟 Key prevention measures include:
• constant supervision of children near water
• avoiding swimming after alcohol or extreme fatigue
• swimming in safe and supervised areas
• learning basic first aid and CPR
• using appropriate flotation devices when needed

In an emergency, immediate action is critical. Removing the person from the water, calling for help, and starting basic life support by a trained person can make a significant difference.

📌 World Drowning Prevention Day reminds us that water safety is not a matter of chance. It requires supervision, awareness, responsibility, and prevention.

Allergies occur when the immune system overreacts to substances that are usually harmless for most people. These may include pollen, dust mites, pet dander, certain foods, medications, or insect stings.

An allergic reaction can present differently from person to person. For some, symptoms may be mild, such as sneezing, runny nose, or itchy eyes. For others, allergies may affect the respiratory system, the skin, or in rare cases lead to a severe reaction requiring urgent care.

🩺 Common allergic manifestations include:
• allergic rhinitis with sneezing, runny nose, or nasal congestion
• itchy, watery eyes
• skin rashes or hives
• cough, wheezing, or shortness of breath in allergic asthma

Identifying triggers is a key part of prevention. Avoiding allergens, using appropriate medication, and seeking medical guidance can significantly reduce symptoms and improve quality of life.

📌 World Allergy Day reminds us that allergies are not always a minor inconvenience. Persistent, recurring, or breathing-related symptoms should be properly assessed.

29/06/2026

Proper preparation before travelling is not only about tickets and luggage. Health is an essential part of safe travel, especially when your trip involves long distances, climate changes, different hygiene conditions, or chronic medical conditions requiring regular medication.

Before departure, make sure you have enough of your regular medication with you, preferably in its original packaging. People with chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, heart disease, or a history of allergies should carry basic medical information and, when needed, guidance from their doctor.

🩺 Useful pre-travel health steps:
• Pack your regular medicines
• Carry a basic first aid kit
• Stay hydrated during travel
• Use sunscreen and insect repellent when appropriate
• Maintain good hand hygiene
• Check whether vaccines or travel insurance are needed

For travel to destinations with increased risk of specific infections, preventive vaccination or specialist medical advice may be required. Planning ahead is important, as some vaccines need time to become effective.

📌 Safe travel starts before departure. With proper prevention, adequate medication planning, and medical guidance when necessary, you can significantly reduce health risks while travelling.

20/06/2026

Working outdoors during the summer months can place significant strain on the body. Prolonged sun exposure, high temperatures, humidity, physical effort, and inadequate rest increase the risk of heat stress.

Heat stress is not simply feeling hot. It occurs when the body struggles to maintain a normal internal temperature. This may lead to dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or in severe cases, heatstroke.

🩺 Protective measures at work:
• Drink water regularly before feeling very thirsty
• Wear light-coloured, breathable clothing
• Take regular breaks in shaded or cool areas
• Use a hat and sun protection
• Avoid working alone in extreme heat

⚠️ Symptoms that require attention:
Dizziness, headache, heavy sweating, nausea, weakness, rapid heartbeat, or confusion may be early signs of heat exhaustion. If these occur, work should stop immediately and the person should move to a cool area.

📌 Heat protection at work is a health and safety issue. Proper prevention, adequate hydration, and early recognition of symptoms can prevent serious complications.

14/06/2026

Blood donation is one of the most meaningful acts of support in medical care. Blood and blood products are essential in many clinical situations, including surgery, trauma, blood disorders, pregnancy-related complications, and treatment for patients with chronic or complex conditions.

Despite medical progress, blood cannot be manufactured artificially. The availability of safe blood depends on voluntary donors and regular, well-organized blood donation systems.

🩸 Why blood donation matters:
• It supports patients who require transfusions
• It helps manage emergency situations
• It is essential in oncology and haematology care
• It strengthens the safety and availability of healthcare services

Blood donation is a safe procedure when performed according to medical protocols. Before each donation, donor eligibility is assessed to protect both the donor and the recipient.

📌 World Blood Donor Day reminds us that giving blood is not only an act of kindness. It is a medically important contribution that can play a vital role in treatment, recovery, and survival.

Give blood. Give hope. Support life.

11/06/2026

Heatwaves are not simply uncomfortable weather conditions. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can place significant strain on the body, especially when combined with dehydration, physical activity, chronic illness, or certain medications.

Heat affects the body’s ability to regulate its internal temperature. When the body cannot release heat effectively, heat exhaustion may develop and, in more severe cases, heatstroke can occur.

🩺 Who needs extra caution:
• Older adults
• Children
• Pregnant women
• People with heart, lung, or kidney conditions
• People taking diuretics or long-term medication
• Outdoor workers or those exercising in the heat

Prevention is essential. Stay in cool or shaded areas, avoid direct sun exposure during the hottest hours, wear light and breathable clothing, and drink water regularly even if you do not feel thirsty. Alcohol should be avoided, as it may worsen dehydration.

⚠️ Warning signs to watch for:
• Heavy sweating
• Dizziness or headache
• Nausea
• Rapid heartbeat
• Confusion
• Extreme fatigue

📌 If symptoms persist or worsen, medical assessment is necessary. Heatwaves can seriously affect health, but with proper prevention and early recognition, complications can often be avoided.
