Congratulations! 👏 Pavel Stejskal receives the 3rd Albert Schweitzer Prize for Medicine of the Embassy of France in the Czech Republic

On 26 June 2026, Pavel Stejskal was awarded the 3rd Albert Schweitzer Prize for Medicine, presented by the Embassy of France in the Czech Republic during a ceremonial event held at the French Embassy in Prague.

The awards were presented by Jean-Marie Lehn, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, in the presence of Stéphane Crouzat and distinguished guests from the scientific community. The Albert Schweitzer Prize recipients are selected through a two-stage evaluation process. The final stage consisted of a presentation and defense of the candidate's PhD research before a committee chaired by Arnold Munnich at the French Institute in Prague.

🤩 We're thrilled that the EATRIS Board Meetings in Prague left such a positive impression that Eliis decided to take our event board home as a souvenir. Thank you for the wonderful compliment to our design and the EATRIS CZ event—and for keeping a piece of Prague with you! 💛

✈️ EATRIS Member Engagement Officer Eliis Keidong decided to bring back an unusual souvenir from our recent Board Meetings in Prague. A large decorative event board half her size!

As the boarding opened for the flight KL1358 to Amsterdam, she started wondering whether she had been overly optimistic with her plan. Fortunately, the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines crew were unfazed. With good humour and a bit of creativity, they helped her bring it on board. To everyone's surprise, the poster board slid perfectly into the overhead compartment, as if it had been designed for air travel.

My thanks to the KLM flight crew for their kindness and flexibility—and for helping a wonderful memory from Prague make its way safely to Amsterdam.

✅ The PERMED: T2BA Consortium and Scientific Board Meeting took place at the IMTM in Olomouc on June 11–12, 2026.

The event brought together leading researchers and experts to discuss the latest advances in personalized medicine, including cancer research, molecular diagnostics, medical imaging, artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and innovative biomedical applications. The meeting also provided a valuable platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange across the consortium.

Congratulations to our colleague, Zdeněk Škrott, on receiving the prestigious ERC-CZ grant! 🎉

His project, MICROTHERM – Elucidating Cellular Proteostasis through a Unique Platform for Subcellular Microthermal Protein Damage, will explore how cells recognize and respond to damaged proteins using a completely novel experimental approach. The research is expected to provide important insights into biological processes involved in neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. We wish Zdeněk and his team every success with this exciting project! 👏🔬

🔬 We had a great time at Veletrh vědy !
Last week, we represented IMTM as part of the Univerzita Palackého exhibit at the Science Fair in Prague. 👩‍🔬 Together with our researchers, visitors explored the fascinating world of forensic genetics and had the opportunity to examine samples of tumors, aspergillosis, and tardigrades under the microscope.

🇨🇿 Prague, 1 June 2026 – The Czech EATRIS Spotlight Programme Event took place at the Kaiserstein Palace in Prague, bringing together leading experts to support translational medicine and strengthen collaboration among research infrastructures in the Czech Republic and across Europe. The event welcomed approximately 100 participants, including scientists, clinicians, representatives of research organisations, public authorities, and European partners. 🤝 Eatris

The programme highlighted advances in biomedical research, innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, the use of multi-omics and artificial intelligence, and the importance of collaboration in accelerating the translation of scientific discoveries into better healthcare solutions. The programme concluded with an official handover to Italy, which now takes forward the next chapter of the Spotlight Programme. 🇮🇹
