🌍 We hosted Charles University, Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies Summer School and it was fun!

🙌 We welcomed students from several countries during this year's Summer School.

🕙 They spent a full day with us, getting a real taste of university life, from experiencing what it's like to sit in a genuine lecture hall, to discovering how modern technologies are integrated into medical education. They also joined a seminar on healthy nutrition during stressful periods, like exam time, which is something every student can relate to!

💡 We believe they left not only with new knowledge but also with practical skills they can carry forward.

👋 Thank you for spending the day with us! We look forward to seeing some of you back here one day, taking your seats in our lecture halls as our students!

🥼 Dr. Rhody David Raj, our alumnus (Class of 2020) and Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery registrar at John Radcliffe Hospital, returned to the faculty to lead a full day of hands-on workshops and academic seminars for current students, organised by MedSoc Z.S.

The programme covered:
🔧 Fracture fixation basics & hands-on practice with real surgical kits
🦵 Plaster casting and ankle fracture fixation
📋 Targeted preparation for the Surgery State Exam
📊 How to design and present a clinical audit in an NHS hospital

🔝 Engagement stayed high throughout the day — and according to student organiser Darsh Jhala, most participants signed up for the full programme rather than individual sessions. A clear sign the format hit the mark.

👏 A great example of what happens when alumni expertise meets student initiative. Well done to everyone involved!

🧠 We would like to invite you to a lecture by Yori Gidron (University of Haifa, Israel), an internationally acclaimed expert in psychoneuroimmunology and a pioneer in vagal neuroimmuno­modulation research.

💡 Gidron's work focuses on the role of the vagus nerve as a prognostic marker across oncological, cardiovascular and post-COVID conditions, and on heart rate variability (HRV) as a non-invasive index of autonomic activity. His research also explores methods of modulating autonomic function — including HRV biofeedback, vagal breathing and non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation — as well as evidence-based interventions for PTSD prevention, among them his own Memory Structuring Intervention (MSI).

🧬 A treatment developed by the team at the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, is helping patients with inoperable soft tissue sarcoma avoid amputation — and our experts are the only ones offering it in the Czech Republic. On top of that, their research is actively contributing to bringing this method to patients around the world.

💡 The multidisciplinary team at the First Faculty and its affiliated clinics uses a treatment that shrinks soft tissue sarcomas, making it possible to remove them safely. The method — isolated hyperthermic limb perfusion — works by connecting the limb to an external circulation system, allowing doctors to deliver high doses of medication directly where it's needed. If the tumor responds and shrinks, orthopedic surgeons can step in, remove it, and the patient keeps their limb.
