A conversation. A smile. Sharing a meal with family.
These everyday moments can become unexpectedly difficult after a stroke, or TBI.
Speech and swallowing therapy supports patients who experience difficulties with speaking, understanding language, using their voice or swallowing safely.
For severely affected patients, there can be additional challenges. After a period of mechanical ventilation or in patients with a tracheostomy, regaining voice, speech and safe swallowing can be an important part of neurological rehabilitation. Depending on the individual situation, our speech and swallowing therapists work step by step with patients to rebuild these essential abilities.
At Kliniken Schmieder, therapy begins with a specialised assessment to understand which functions are affected and to what extent. Based on these findings, treatment is tailored to the individual patient โ from targeted communication and speech exercises to swallowing therapy.
Our speech and swallowing therapists work closely with physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and neuropsychologists to support each patient's rehabilitation journey. Because regaining the ability to communicate or to enjoy a meal safely is about much more than recovery. It can be an important step towards greater independence and participation in everyday life.
