While VBAC conversations have become more common, many women still say the very first thing they hear is: “What about uterine rupture?”

Yes, uterine rupture is a real risk and should absolutely be part of informed consent.

But informed consent also means discussing the full picture.

It means talking about the risks of repeat cesareans. It means discussing benefits, statistics, recovery, future pregnancies, and individual circumstances.
It means giving women evidence-based information instead of leading with fear.

After one cesarean, the risk of uterine rupture is often cited around 1% or less depending on individual factors, provider practices, and birth history.

No one else should make this decision for you blindly.

Research your options. Ask hard questions. Read beyond the headlines. Find providers who are willing to have honest conversations.

Whether you choose a repeat cesarean or a VBAC, the goal is not pressure. The goal is informed, supported decision-making.

What gives YOU peace matters. 🤍
