Dr. Carlos Albert Reck Burneo practices as a pediatric surgeon at Medizinische Universität Wien. Reck performs colorectal and pelvic reconstruction surgeries with expertise in persistent cloaca, Hirschsprung disease, and associated anomalies. He also leads research into the use of artificial

intelligence in pediatric surgery. Reck took his doctorate of medicine and surgery from Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador, then practiced as a rural doctor to women and children in the Andean subtropics. Reck held general pediatrics and pediatric surgery residencies at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City and Medizinische Universität Wien, earning the Joseph R. Bongiorno award and an American Academy of Pediatrics board certification. He then acted as a clinical assistant professor at Ohio State University, taking on clinical and research fellowships with Dr. Marc Levitt at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus. Reck is now an Austrian board-certified pediatric surgeon at Medizinische Universität Wien. He also is co-founder and chairman of Helping Hands for Anorectal Malformations, a nonprofit organization treating children from developing countries for a**l atresia. Reck co-authored a book on pediatric colorectal and pelvic surgery, served on six planning committees, and produced 58 international presentations and peer-reviewed publications in the field.

Der Kampf gegen ein Tabu in der Kinderchirurgie
Kolorektale Fehlbildungen sind viel häufiger, als man denkt – doch kaum jemand spricht darüber. Viele Eltern erfahren erst davon, wenn ihr Kind betroffen ist.

Als Chefarzt der Kinderchirurgie am Universitätsklinikum Brandenburg möchte ich dazu beitragen, diese Erkrankungen sichtbar zu machen, Tabus zu brechen und vor allem Kindern und Familien eine sichere Behandlung und Perspektive zu geben.

👉 Ziel ist es, ein Zentrum für Kinderkolorektalchirurgie aufzubauen, das modernste Verfahren mit langfristiger Begleitung verbindet.

In the middle of an 8-hour cloaca case, we had two power outages lasting several minutes each. Thanks to a cohesive and calm team, excellent anesthesia, and a battery-powered surgical lamp, we were able to continue safely and complete the operation without complications. A strong team and good preparation make all the difference when unexpected challenges arise. Grateful for everyone in the room that day. 💪🏼🩺

🌍✈️ March, what a month! ✨
From surgeries in 3 countries to switching careers + continents 🌏💼… Life’s been a whirlwind of chaos, courage, and countless lessons. But through it all, the brightest moments came from the people who showed up — friends who laughed with me, colleagues who supported me, and loved ones who reminded me what truly matters. ❤️

📖 So many stories to share (and a few scars to prove them 😉). Grateful for the madness, the growth, and the memories that’ll stick longer than any jet lag. Here’s to new chapters, stronger hearts, and never taking a single sunset (or sunrise coffee) for granted. ☕🌅
