Summer is here and maybe you noticed it too, that your practice has changed through travelling, social activities, different child care during the holidays etc.
Here are my five tipps to adapt your practice
🌞Embrace “Less Is More”
Summer is full: travel, family time, social events, childcare. It’s natural that your energy (and schedule) changes. Instead of pushing for long, intense practices, allow yourself shorter, softer sessions. Doing less doesn’t mean you’re “falling behind” – it means you’re listening to your life and your body.
🌞 Short, Consistent Practices Over Long Ones
Swap the idea of a 60–90 minute class for 10–20 minutes on the mat. A few sun breaths, gentle stretches, or a short seated practice can be enough. Consistency keeps you connected, even if the practice is small. Think: “a little bit, often” instead of “a lot, rarely.”
🌞 Cool and Grounding Instead of Fiery
Summer already brings heat, so your yoga can balance that. Choose:
🌞Gentle flows instead of power classes
Forward folds, hip openers, and twists
Cooling breaths (like Sitali or just slow nasal breathing)
Let your practice feel like shade on a hot day, not another heatwave.
🌞 Let Life Become Your Practice
Your yoga doesn’t only happen on the mat. It’s also:
Breathing deeply while travelling
A mindful walk on the beach or in the park
Being fully present with your kids, partner, or friends
Stretching gently after a long drive or flight
When time is tight, let your practice weave into daily life instead of being one more “task.”
🌞 Release the Guilt and Adjust Your Expectations
Your practice is meant to support you, not stress you. It’s perfectly ok if, in this season, your yoga looks like:
5 minutes of breath before bed
A few stretches in the morning
A restorative pose while the kids nap
Trust that your practice can ebb and flow. It’s ok doing less.
Summer is a season to live, explore, connect – and your yoga can gently hold you through it, without pressure or perfection. 🌿
