System enables the dentist to perform a minimally-invasive endodontic treatment, according to the original anatomy of the root canal, and to achieve cleaning and shaping with continuous irrigation, thanks to the revolutionary design of the file. The SAF, a Nickel-Titanium lattice-like cylinder, is designed to acquire the natural form of the root canal (oval, C-shaped, with various tapers, etc.). The SAF is not a single-core instrument as other endodontic instruments, which not only allows it to adapt to the form of the canal, but also enables continuous effective irrigation throughout the treatment, to achieve better cleaning of the canal, with the use of Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCl) or other irrigants.

Conventional rotary files follow a predetermined shape. As a result, in complex root canal systems, not all areas of the canal are reached and cleaned equally. In addition, mechanical preparation and chemical cleaning are typically performed as separate steps.

The Self-Adjusting File (SAF) takes a fundamentally different approach: instead of adapting the canal to the file and unnecessarily removing tooth structure, the file adapts itself to the individual anatomy of the root canal. Thanks to its three-dimensional lattice design, it enables preparation with continuous irrigation and sonic activation throughout the entire treatment process.

The result is a minimally invasive preparation that respects the natural canal anatomy while combining mechanical preparation and chemical cleaning in a single integrated workflow.

Last weekend, we were part of the Endodontic Curriculum of the Dental Chamber of Schleswig-Holstein.

As part of the “Instrumentation” module, the advantages of canal preparation and disinfection with the Self-Adjusting File were discussed in depth and practically explored by the 24 participants. The group consisted mainly of experienced clinicians aiming to further deepen their expertise in endodontics. Thank you for the great exchange!

The focus was not only on the application itself, but also on our vision of efficient and modern endodontics – particularly the necessary paradigm shift in the understanding of preparation and disinfection.

The module was complemented by Gerald Schlumbohm, who presented the Schlumbohm EndoPilot² as a modular solution for endodontic treatment – from working length determination and preparation to ultrasonic activation and thermoplastic obturation. The first step is crucial.

With PreSAF, instrumentation begins where many endodontic complications arise: establishing a safe and reproducible glide path.

As a rotary glide path file, PreSAF supports the initial mechanical enlargement of the canal and creates a defined starting point for further instrumentation – a key factor in reducing torsional stress, blockages, or canal transportation.

The PreSAF family is clearly structured and covers different clinical requirements. The files can be used individually or in combination:

PreSAF FLARE
for coronal enlargement of narrow canal or***ces (or***ce shaping)

PreSAF GLIDE
ISO 14/.03 for initial glide path preparation at ISO 10

PreSAF PREP
for further preparation – including ISO 21 with a regressive taper (5% – 4% – 2%) as an ideal preparation for the SAF 1.5 mm

Manufactured from heat-treated controlled memory nickel-titanium and produced in France, the instruments offer controlled flexibility and high manufacturing quality.

And importantly for daily practice:
PreSAF is not system-bound. The files are compatible with standard endodontic motors and can be easily integrated into existing workflows – even without the SAF system.

At the same time, PreSAF provides a cost-effective solution for mechanical glide path preparation – without unnecessary complexity.

In combination with SAF, a particularly consistent workflow is achieved: first a defined mechanical glide path, followed by three-dimensional preparation with continuous irrigation and sonic activation.

Are you still using EDTA at the end of instrumentation?

In conventional endodontics, chemical cleaning usually follows separate steps:
NaOCl during instrumentation – followed by EDTA for smear layer removal.

Strong exchange, inspiring insights, and a clear view of the future of medical technology 🚀 ReDent NOVA participated in the Medical Technology Congress 2026 (mtk26) hosted by NiedersachsenMetall at the Medical Park – a new format bringing together industry, science, medicine, and politics.

We are especially proud that our Head of Clinical Dentistry, Johannes Meyer-Kobbe, led a dedicated SAF forum. The focus: modern endodontic concepts and how innovative technologies are advancing root canal treatment.

The congress clearly demonstrated:

In our previous post on oral health, we highlighted why it extends far beyond the mouth and how it impacts the entire body.

Today, on World Oral Health Day, we take it one step further.

Even with good prevention, not every condition can be avoided. When infection reaches the root canal system, treatment becomes necessary to preserve the natural tooth.

However, successful treatment is not the end — it is the beginning of long-term oral health.

A root canal treated tooth remains part of the overall system. Its long-term success depends, among other factors, on:
• good oral hygiene
• stable periodontal conditions
• a well-sealed, definitive restoration
• regular follow-ups

What does this mean in clinical practice?

Modern dentistry follows a clear goal: to preserve natural teeth.

This goes beyond the treatment itself and requires a holistic approach that includes prevention, minimally invasive therapy, and long-term maintenance.

Contemporary endodontic concepts support this approach through effective cleaning, continuous disinfection, and preservation of the natural tooth structure.

Because oral health is not a moment — it is a process.

After the successful and fully booked SAF workshop the day before, the 7th Endodontie Symposium Sachsen took place yesterday in Dresden.

It was a day full of engaging lectures on modern endodontics and tooth preservation, accompanied by a lively industry exhibition that offered plenty of opportunities for professional exchange and discussion.

We were especially pleased about the great interest in the SAF System at our booth, hosted by Roman and Stephan. Many participants and speakers stopped by to exchange ideas about innovative and reliable concepts in root canal treatment.

Endodontic specialists in particular stayed for longer discussions, leading to insightful conversations and exciting debates about the future of root canal treatment.
