my parents leave tomorrow morning after 3 weeks together and i genuinely could not be more grateful for this time. the timing was also weirdly aligned coz tbh behind the scenes i’ve been struggling mentally and emotionally quite a bit, so having them here gave me something i didn’t even realise i needed.
we have come faaaaar as a family and this trip made me realise just how proud i am of my parents too. i saw sides of them i don’t think i’d ever had the chance to see before. watching them travel, try new things, be silly, meet my friends, adapt, explore and just enjoy themselves made me see them as people outside of just being my mum and dad.
for so much of my life i’ve thought about what they sacrificed, what they couldn’t do and the ways we didn’t always understand each other. but the older i get, the more i’m also seeing who they are, how much they’ve grown and how much we’ve all grown together. also so many of you have dm’d me saying how cool my parents are and i’ve never really seen them like that 😂 but this trip i got to see just how freaking cute they are.
3 weeks together has also been triggering at times too 😅 old roles come back, there were moments where i felt like a teenager again and sometimes it feels like my mind knows that things are different now but my body is still catching up and learning to trust that.
but despite all of that, it was just so nice to not feel alone. to eat together, be together, third wheel my parents living out their korean drama romance, do these silly little fit checks before our morning coffee and just have them be part of my everyday life for a while ❤️
