• FEVERS •

These are painful to watch your baby go through as a parent. And it often comes with worries like “when is it too high according to baby’s age”, or “at what temperature is it time to medicate or go to the doctor”…

Before I answer these questions, I just want remind you that fevers, despite how poorly they make our baby’s, are actually a good thing! They stimulate your baby’s body to fight/ protect your baby, and this increase in body temperature makes it harder for bacteria or viruses to flourish.

Getting to the questions around “what temperature is too high/ needs medical attention”: what is more important than temperature is actually how your baby is doing! They might have a low fever and be in immense pain, or they may have a higher fever but are smiling and fine in between sleeps. So the key to navigating a fever is truly to watch your baby and tap into those mama instincts!

Bringing down a fever too early can actually extend the length of time the body needs to fight the illness/ reaction! This is why most paediatricians also advise against giving baby any fever reducing medications before vaccinations for example, as it can extend the fever and also be counterproductive for the body’s reaction to kick in!

Swipe right for some of my tips for handling fevers at home! You’ve got this Mama or Papa 💪🏽

Morning sickness occurs in around 70% of pregnancies and starts around week 6. The cause of morning sickness is not entirely known, but there are several ideas as to why it arises or is heightened:

• Rising estrogen or HCG levels
• Fluctuating thyroxine levels
• Low blood sugar
• Stress, fatigue
• Having twins or triplets
• Sensitivity to certain foods
• Sensitivity to motion (motion sickness)
• In TCM it is seen as being related to issues with the stomach/ spleen/ liver
• On a more spiritual note it has been pondered whether it stems from a more emotional or deeper rooted rejection in the body/ mind

While sending love and holding space to anyone here who has not had the opportunity to carry a baby and who may be praying to feel such a sensation (I know I myself was so excited to feel this whilst trying to conceive). I hope through sharing some tips for those either currently battling nausea/ sickness in their first trimester or for anyone as future reference, that it may be helpful - because knowledge and experience shared is power multiplied ✌️

They say it takes a village to raise a baby… but really, it also takes a village to grow a mother…

Wow has pregnancy shed light on the importance of this sentence to me again and again. The amount of ‘growth’ I have experienced not just physically, but mentally, emotionally and spiritually the past months has been uncanny.

Most people have baby showers where women/ friends and family gather to ‘shower’ with gifts.. instead of this my darling friends and family gifted me a ‘gathering’ and ‘blessing way’. Which for me personally was utterly enriching and SO essential as a step forwards in my path to becoming a mother…

Instead of physical gifts, a blessing way is all about nurturing, and holding space for the mother to-be, the gift of love, words, rituals, and presence… Having a blessingway was something I had always dreamed to be part of someday should I be lucky enough to experience pregnancy 🙏🏽 Now having had one a couple weeks back… I can truly say that I wish the same for any mumma to be! The week before my blessingway I had so many doubts and worries creeping in about how life after birth might look and whether I‘m really cut out for this or not… (mix in fluctuating hormones 🎢😭)

My blessingway saw to it that my cup was filled to the brim with love 🥰 with empowering words, and rituals that connected me to the incredible women around me, all giving me a sense of peace and confidence that I’m holding onto tightly and continuing to bring myself back to any time worries creep back in again.

Have you heard of the term blessingway before? Thinking about sharing more on what we did and in what ways it helped my mindest…

What do you do to dial down? To unwind from the stresses of your busy day/ just reset?

I used to meditate a lot some years back, but then life got ‘busier & busier’ and ‘making’ / ‘taking’ time to just sit still with my thoughts for even just a few minutes a day grew less and less. Anyone else relate?

When I did start to take time to meditate again… wow did it make a world of a difference to my mood, concentration/ focus, and my perspective on things. I’m still not back to meditating daily but I do make the time more these days, and here are some ways how I go back into whilst still working too:

• Working in healthcare the second I set foot through the door from work, I walk straight to the shower -> I would use this post-work hygiene shower as an opportunity to also imagine all the stresses of my day ‘washing off’ me whilst showering. Highly recommend!

• I stopped putting pressure on myself to sit down and meditate. I would use simple opportunities like commute to work for example to keep my phone away and regulate my breathing / be with thoughts. Or listen to a calming playlist en route to soothe.

• I would use home activities like cooking/ cleaning to zone out and clear my thoughts.

• I joined a monthly circle where twice a month during full moon and new moon we gather and as well as meditate, set intentions for the weeks ahead. (My darling friend @[17841401497300416:6057:] is the incredible creator of the circle I join)

• Meditating in silence or to a guided meditation in bed/ on a walk / commuting. Whatever works on the day.

• Trying to create the habit of not reaching for my phone first thing in the morning but only once I’m sitting down for breakfast/ after (not easy and still v much working on this one 😅).

• Meditating with my partner/ a friend/ family member has also helped me to get back into it again.

Let me know your ways to unwind in the comments below- I’d love to know! 🤍

“When we think and feel for long enough within the confines of an ‘event’s’ neurochemistry, it ultimately becomes our state of being.”
- Thoughts become things 🧠

And this place gave me the feeling of the ‘deepest breath out’ 😌 Trying to keep that sensation within me despite being back in the hustle & bustle of Berlin ✨

• SECOND TRIMESTER •

The second trimester felt very energy giving for me… progressively I started to feel ‘more myself’ again, experience less nausea, and WOW my appetite picked up 😅 now I really understand the true meaning of eating for two!

Despite typically being more assertive, active and a typical leo, I found myself dialling down immensely. Somehow things that would have ruffled my feathers before couldn’t bother me less, choosing peace and calmness as much as I could, and avoiding anything that didn’t feel inline with that (most of the time.. I have had the occasional outbursts that have also been wild 😅) has been so incredible to experience, such a change in myself.

What I’m reading / watching (ok minus squid game that was just nuts) I’m being a lot more conscious overall of what I put into my body physically and mentally, I’m being more selective about than ever before. (The only green card is chocolate and dessert - that I have no control over 😂🤪)

I also never thought I would love my body so very much… there were for sure occasional frustrating moments where nothing including my underwear was fitting me, and I most certainly still have days where I feel like looking in the mirror feels really hard seeing these stark changes.. But overall I’ve embraced the cellulite, rubbing thighs and added ‘body’ - reminding myself and feeling so very grateful that it’s holding me and my little one in this wild and wonderful journey.

Feeling her kicks have been utterly magical, and I find it so fascinating that as soon as I settle down to sleep, or when meditating she gets really active! I miss her on the days she’s a little quieter - which by the way freaked me out a little at first that some days they can just be a little less active.

Continuing to learn LOTS and will find time to share more on specifics soon!

How was/ is your second trimester? Did you also feel like you had more energy? And did you find yourself ‘shifting’ in terms of your personality too?

• CHANGE ON THE HORIZON •

With the seasons moving from summer to autumn in Europe, and also on a more personal note moving from my second trimester into the third trimester the sensation of change has felt heavy lately. (Metaphorically and literally with my belly growing each day 🥵😅)..

Change can sometimes feel incredibly daunting… starting a new job, first day of school, dating someone new, or general changes in personal/ friendship relationships, moving home, becoming a parent, just to name a few. It can also ofcourse bring a lot of excitement and anticipation with it!

• If I’ve felt overwhelmed; letting it out, feeling it, and accepting it - no bottling things up
• Planning ahead, whether it’s a schedule on my phone or on paper, clearing my thoughts and putting them down somewhere works a dream
• Tech-free time; phone away or on airplane mode to steer clear from distractions
• Not saying yes to everything, being careful with my time and and who I spend it with or what on
• Getting out, whether it’s locally or outside of the city, moving and getting fresh air (phone free)
• Meditation several times a week, taking it back to the breath and allowing the millions of thought bubbles to pop away

Feels somewhat surreal that we are already in October and in 3 short months we are entering 2022! With the sense of change in the air I like to remind myself that change is in fact the only constant. The only certainty we have is change… and the art of being curious but also surrendering to it is a great way to embrace it and face it ✌️
