: Overcoming degenerative disc disease
Mr Abdullah, a 41-year old patient from Saudi Arabia, suffered from degenerative disc disease for many years. After long-term and unsuccessful treatment methods, he came in October 2020 to the International Medical Centre at Schoen Clinic Vogtareuth. After a brief attempt at conservative treatment, he underwent a minimally invasive microscope-assisted surgery, and the pain receded. Plus, specialists could discontinue the previously needed strong painkillers.
The surgery was carried out by the experienced neurosurgery team, overseen by Dr Manfred Kudernatsch, Head of Department.

“Mr Abdullah was treated by us promptly after a long-term illness, and he is now symptom-free, ” said Dr Völker, Head of Department of the International Medical Centre.

André Trumpp, Managing Director at Schoen Clinic Hamburg Eilbek, and the Head of Physicians Prof. Volker Fendrich received the first vaccines this week with the motto "Together against Coronavirus". In total, 162 employees have already been vaccinated against Coronavirus, and of course, we will continue!

"The COVID-19 crisis has severely affected Parkinson patients. Parkinson disease by itself is not a risk factor, but age and associated conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and being overweight are. For those who didn't become infected with the Corona virus, accessing health care has been an issue. During the lockdown, many appointment were cancelled and elective admissions were not possible. Patients were reluctant to go to hospitals even in case of deteriorations and emergencies because they were scared of getting infected with COVID-19. Some patients even had difficulties in getting their medication. The lack of follow-up visits to adapt the medication plan or to adjust stimulation parameters have had harmful effects on some patients. Preventive measures during the pandemic have also reduced physical activity, which is also associated with worsening of Parkinson's symptoms. It is therefore essential to keep exercising to fight symptoms such as freezing of gait," explains Prof. Andrés Ceballos-Baumann, Head of Department Neurology and Clinical Neuropsychology at Schoen Clinic München Schwabing.
